ORIGINAL: NaiveTempest I have always wondered about a question asked of me when I was a child, maybe some of you have heard it..... Why do we park in driveways and drive on parkways? Seriously, who comes up with the names for things? Is there some Naming Corporation out there? Aliens? And at what point do people vote and say, yeah I want to call it that too? Why's a keyboard not a button board? Why is a flashlight not a steady light? Does history really mean his-story? If supernatural things happen all around us, just on a 'plane' that we are not cognizant of, doesn't that mean that they are actually just natural? What is so 'super' about them? If American Indian are Native Americans, blacks are Afro-Americans, and Hispanics are Latin Americans, the what are whites? *ramblings of a bored mind* The terms Driveway and Parkway are from the horse and buggy days. You would literally drive through the park in your buggy showing off your dress or whatnot or courting. So the parkway is the way through the park. You would then go home and drive up your driveway and then park so that your servents could come out and put yout horse and buggy away. Flash light ~ it makes a light all of a sudden. No, history is derived from Greek and means learning by inquery. The "super" in supernatural means above and beyond. If something is supernatural it is above natural law. Irish-American, Scotish-American, British-American, et cetera. It is a keyboard because you press the keys up and down like piano keys. Do I win a prize?
