After you drop a few thousand hints and they still don't respond ... I'd say they're likely vanilla ...  but if you throw a dual-meaning keyword at 'em swirled up in the middle of a conversation - judge by their reaction ... e.g., the word "munch" means something to us yet, to nillas, it merely is a slang term for chewing.

If their nipples perk up whenever you name drop ... go for the command role!

For me, the dead give away is the pursing of the lips and the Ohhhhh that escapes when I pull out a paddle.   If they reach for it and start swishing it, they're dominant.  Sensually stroking it or promptly bending over something tends to indicate a submissive....... And no, I'm not joking.

LOL..Ok I had to laugh with this one. I met Master when I came to his house for a social Gathering of a vanilla organization we both belonged to. After a 2 hour drive and a 42 oz soda, the first thing on my mind getting out of the car was a bathroom.
"Hello, Nice to meet you, Ummm bathroom?"
"You'll have to use the one in the Master bedroom, the other is occupied, follow me"

Hallway, glance in side bedroom as we passed..bathroom..HEAVEN..exit...

"OOOOO Nice St. Andrews Cross!"

That led of course to a tour of the play room, and some interesting talks all evening. The rest is history.

ALL BDSM addicts are the perverts you see hanging out at Home Depot. You will usually find them in the rope/chain section, the hardware section and sometimes you will find subs sitting on top of the clothes washers in the appliance section saying "oh please turn it on!"

I find that they can't pass a pet shop .. they press their little Dommy or subby noses against the windows and admire the dog collars and leashes with a wistful sigh - or at the very least giving the chain leashes a good tug and a swing around the head, to see if they'd 'stand up to the job; ... they will be the ones picking up the rubber dog grooming mitts - the ones with those rather delicous looking rubber bumps on them,  and stroking them across the back of the hands and muttering 'oooh, the possibilities!' ... The really kinky would have had fantasies about those clips one uses to attaches cuttle fish to budgies cages before you can say 'kibble' .....

What sort of things in/on a person might you look for in the vanilla life to recognize someone that's into BDSM?

They waddle when they walk because of the huge butt plug up their ass.

I have had a few that have outed on me in the workplace and what not.  They allways seem to say some little clue that they could be a Dom or Sub.  I have had one woman in the workplace tell me that her husband forgot to set her clothes out that morning and she couldnt figure out what to wear (she had been a sub to the same man for over 20 years).  I have had woman in the workplace come right out and ask me if I was a Dom.  Anyways, I have known a lot that have just kind of tossed things out there in regular conversations that durring the conversations seems to be just a shock value thing.  One woman after asking me if I was a Dom actually directed me to her pony play website,  I didnt like her at all but I really apreaciated the risk she was willing to take to get to know me.

My sister manages a big pet store... big enough that they even have their own shark in a tank as you walk in.  I do not browse in there, do not want to get an "oh realllly????" from sis. Nope, no how, no way.  Now going in there incognito on her day off... hmmm, that's an idea.

Oh yes, my sharp-toothed friend.  We went down to the store on Christmas to feed the shark.  I'll send you a pic on the other side.  She is quite the... cute... shark.

LOL Ray.  First, she is a lesbian and she won't swing to the other side unless you're secretly Brad Pitt.  Second, she is in one of the pictures with the shark.  You'll have to ask Big & Blue up there to describe her, he got the pic.  LOL.

CalifChick, It's funny about you not shopping in her store. We're horsey types but I don't buy toys in the tack shop my friend owns. She would know damn well that the horse doesn't wear pony hobbles and that we don't use crops on him. I have to go out of my way to shop at a tack shop I'm not known at. lol

a prior or current affiliation with an established patriarchal religion that comes complete with a "divinely inspired" mouthpiece here on earth(names and titles vary amongst the many cults).

even better if they held a title in said established religion.

it screams D/s, and the misery and suffering required are a big red flag of S/M.
