But on the Vatican's ceiling, who do we find? Michaelangelo...  .

Yes, which is all well and good if it were a museum instead of a fallacy of a house of god.

Of course, it's like in the cop threads, there are good apples amongst the bad ones... As a general organisation the Cath Church is the incarnation of evil; but I've always appreciated Catholic monks (the Franciscans are awesome). Their history is one of benevolence, not of conquest. They created amazing cheeses; and they produce the best beers in the world (see: Belgium).

I like the monks.

Oh I have to agree with you there! There is a group, The New Skete Monks, that do an amazing job raising and training german shepherd dogs. Their dogs are highly valued and they have made some remarkable contributions to rescue and aide dogs.

They have also published some really good books.

I believed for a long time that women should not have the right to vote. I'm not sure where I stand on that issue now.

Nod nod nod. In France, Franciscan monks regularly go on the news for their active participation in social combats (poverty, fight against racism, helping immigrants without papers).

I think monks are more spiritual than Catholic - I studiously avoid the case of the Benedictines, however, as they have a history of being rich and at the boot of evil.

i do have a thought about the mental health days as well.. in my high school if a student had no missed days they got to skip exams. i think thats stupid, and not jsut becuz i didnt make the "cut" for it. personally.. im not gonna drag my ass out of bed and to school when i feel like crap. im srry but some of the kids that didnt take 1 exam durring high school r gonna be in trouble when they get to college and they dont have that option. its jsut stupid.. i mean yes school is important but if the kids not feeling good, and ive seen kids come in that were either green or white they were so sick. jsut let them stay home.. any one have any opinions on this?

H >:)

I do!  I do!  You can thank the almighty government for that.  Not enough attendance?  The district's share of the pie gets cut!  Because...drum roll, if you please!
The state's share from the Feds get cut.   They have to have so much seat time!  That is actually the terminology.  No learning involved here...just seat time.  So they allow very little (and I mean very lttle) ...too bad for you if yours gets appendecitis and has to be in the hospital for surgery and then a recoup time for a few days at home.  Your time is up!  Best be healthy for the rest of the year!   I got a call from the elementary school principal, even though I had already registered with the county as a home schooler.  I fear she was more concerend that she had lost funding for a student than she was that MY UM was not appearing for the 5th grade!  Ah well....
As to the "skip exams" if you had perfect attendance...that's a new one for Me!  I got to skip exams (as did any) if we had an "A" for the semester.  That was only at the high school level and for each individual class.  We didn't get the "A" for perfect attendance.  We got it for learning the subject matter and doing "A" work and getting "A's" on all the other tests all semester, including the quarterly exams.
And that's My controversial opinion on that!

I wish the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT would disband the DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION and that my own state would abolish COMPULSORY EDUCATION for children over the age of 12.

Oh I have another one which I know that many people out there quietly agree with-

An eating disorder is a disease of shallowness.

I know from convos that a lot of people feel that way.

you could say that about any mental illness--depression, cutting, etc. that position bugs me to no end, because the people saying it most of the time aren't the ones that have ever dealt with the symptoms

i actually got out of a couple of finals as an undergrad because my grade point was high enough. the feeling was that if your grade is high enough that your happy not taking a chance and raising it you could keep it. i had that happened with a class that got cancelled due to a death in the prof's family as well.

I am not a catholic by choice. I actually believe in educating myself rather than following dogma blindly. Obviously I don't know about Canada as I live in the US. What I see going on in the local catholic churches says a great deal. Congregations shrinking, churches filing bankruptsy, etc..

I study organized religioun, I've come to despise most all modern christian church organizations based upon what I have learned. I don't care if catholicism is your faith. My controversial point of view, is that the catholic church, like most modern day christian churches, are closer to being the evil they purport to fight than the oposite.

I am a Catholic by choice, and I certainly do not follow it blindly.  I think the Catholic church has its faults, as any group, but the work they do and the word they spread that I defend.  I think the church needs some updates, in fact, I just wrote a blog about this very topic last week, when Lent started.  And just for the record, I am very educated about My faith, enough to have some very detailed debates with My Muslim and Witness friends.   I dont see how anyone could see evil in it, I can understand not everyone agrees with it, but evil, that is just silly.  Look at Pope John Paul II,,,,he was our leader for a long time, and greatly loved world round, even outside his own faith.  The amount of things that man did for humanity alone just makes him outstanding.
Here is a direct link to the blog I wrote about Faith vs Sexuality, it talkes about some of the things that I, being gay, have dealt with being a Catholic, but it has not shaken My faith one bit.

i know about seat time. i think its stupid.. what difference does it make if the kids there but asleep or throwing up cuz they came to school sick. as to the skipping test or A.. last year i think they changed it to u had to be passing with a B i think and have perfect attendence to get out of the exam, i still think its wrong but its better at least. i had good/great grade in a few classes but i HAD to take the exam becuz i stayed home/went to the docs/whatever a few times that grading period or semester, grading period is 9 weeks. semester is 2 grading periods.

i do understand that to get the funds they have to have kids in the building but its just gone to far. we should make school about learning.. not having butts in the seats.

i agree with cloudboy, get rid of the Department of Education, at leas the one we have now.. see if the grads and such go up with out all the bull shit the schools have to go threw to get funds or whatever. the thing about Compulsory Education.. i think 12 is a lil low.. considering most places wont hier u for a job till your 16, or in some cases 18, so i say u have to be 16 before you can drop out with out any one saying "you cant do that.. we need ur parents permission" and half the time.. the parents dont even know if there 16 year old is going to school if the kid drives. the kid leaves at the beginning of school, for me it was 7 am. and comes home at the end of the school day or later, 3 pm if i didnt have extras.

schools no longer about education.. its about how fast and good can u jmp threw these hoops.

Oh.. and if any one ever.. EVER tells me the "real world" isnt like high school.. ever again. i will hit them... with a big stick. but thats another rant.. maybe later.

So what if it's seen as unethical?

One of the best methods in prventing genetic diseases/disorders is by not allowing these people to reproduce. This goes for mental and physical alements. After all, isn't quality better than quantity?
