4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell:
5. The third day he rose again from the dead:
6. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
7. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:
8. I believe in the Holy Ghost:
9. I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints:
10. The forgiveness of sins:
1l. The resurrection of the body:
12. And the life everlasting. Amen.

(not me, of course, but it sounds pretty spiffy)

Do you realize that the intent of the writers is only one way of interpreting that document?

That’s the problem! People’s creative "interpretations."

quote:

Everything you are saying fails once you realize that the courts have already used more than one mode of interpretation.

The Courts have used more than one interpretation! Well dip my balls in cream and squat me in a room full of kittens! C’mon, Sherlock, tell me something I don’t know. You are merely restating the problem: oh no! The Constitution says something we don’t like? Well, then, let’s just pretend it says something different!

quote:

And your unique interpretation of that document doesn't change several decades of the U.S. being some kind of hybrid socio-economic model that combines social democracy with a republic.

There is nothing unique about my interpretation nor do I seek to combine social democracy (a code phrase for left wing imposed tyranny) with a republic. What I seek is an actual republic. What we’re supposed to be in the first fucking place.

The meaning for the term "general welfare" is still up for grabs as the country changes with the times.

Then your rights are up for grabs to anyone in power who decides that you don’t really need them.

quote:

You're not living in the real world if you think you can turn back the tide on social programs.

I have stated several times, in previous threads, that I am under no delusions that we will turn back the tide on social programs (at least in my lifetime) – there are too many people who believe that they are owed a living (or health care or a comfortable retirement or...) at the expense of others for that to ever happen. Too many people who fail to realize that if you deny the other, you deny yourself.

That's not a point I'm confused on.  It means "universal".. specifically, the universal church, as in the unified church.  The idea of protestant religion is directly in contradiction to the idea of being "C/catholic" (Yes, that's right.  I managed to fit T/them-type grammar into religion.  :P)

There's also the "forgiveness of sins" (repentance) and "communion of saints".  I may be mistaken, but don't most protestant denominations not believe in repentance or sainthood?

your Saints are not our saints once again, dictionary or just belive me it means a soul that is right with god, truely sorrowful and repentant.

Yes, they believe in repentance.

The protestation was against the fact that you could not walk up and get it from Jesus directly, as they saw the bible but had to go thru the veil of the priests, and then the idea that jesus removed the veil as direct interdiction on behalf of mankind and could see the father directly meant that there was no need for another layer like priests, Aaronic priesthood was bye bye according to the new testament.

But this sort of shit makes me puke.

It is the "Nicean Creed. After My Chatholic upbringing, I can still recite it by heart. The Lutherans ripped it off!

It seems that the prayer, down to even what the words mean, has been changed to suit a particular religion.

Freaking religions.

I still don't get what's so great about seventy-two virgins in Heaven if they're all supposed to remain virgins.  What sort of man dies for the ideal of having an eternity of abstanance?

Yes, by the Catholic Pope and heirarchy.  Leo changed the day of worship (subscribed to by Jesus) from saturday to sunday....
In the bible, there is an admonition against the anti-christ---He will think to change the time and the seasons........yadda yadda yadda.....

Ipso Facto

Ralph Cramden.

Marraige was described in the bible as you and the woman walk in the church together and show yourself before god, no more needed you got the old ball and chain. Practiced by the Apostles and early christians as well.

Then about the 4th century AD or so the Papacy needed a way to get more money (kinda like our governments) so they got in the middle of it and took a cut.

more and more and more.
