An interesting- and complementary- question would be about the motivations of individuals who subscribe to the dogma of contemporary humanist thought. [:D]

Sigh.  As a dreaded secular humanist I'd love to also delve into this discussion.  Why would anyone (like me for example) look at factual based science and the possibility of higher social and moral reasoning within humans as a blueprint for a lifestyle?  Just seems to me that I'd rather examine my own moral and ethical responsiblities within this life and try to fullfill what I see is my responsiblities rather than draw on someone elses SOCIALLY CONSTRUCTED ideas.  Everything is made up, however we can make observations and develop our own moral compasses.  I'm also a horrible moral relativists.... if I weren't I couldn't live with the guilt of the sexual deviance I so thouroughly enjoy (disregard any spelling errors.. I'm hopeless at spelling).

Aswad -> RE: Intresting Question (2/11/2008 11:54:03 AM)

Sounds good to me. That's what I've been doing, basically. Not that I'm secular, but my beliefs are in line with my chosen values, so it's a moot point in that context.

That is a sign from above that you are never going to get to Gor... only those with perfect penmanship and spelling will be admitted.[:D]

Well.. as a recovering mormon it doesn't look like I'll make it to any of their ficticious heavens either.  I'm only doomed people, don't mind me.  In fact, look away, my level of doomed might burn out your eyes.

Alumbrado -> RE: Intresting Question (2/11/2008 12:01:30 PM)

Cthulu loves you, and forgives all...

giveeverything -> RE: Intresting Question (2/11/2008 12:05:53 PM)

whew... what a relief.  I really take my cues about heaven and hell from Mark Twain.  I mean, as per his logic, do we really want to go to a heaven, sit on clouds playing harps, and listen to the singing of peole who can't even sing in church here on earth?  I'm going to hell where I'm going to play poker and drink beer all night -- now doesn't that sound like more fun?

giveeverything -> RE: Intresting Question (2/11/2008 12:07:46 PM)

sorry for the hi jack.. just had to put in my $.02 regarding the afterlife.  But as Prince says, in this life, things are much harder than the afterlife.  In this life, you're on your own.

Jeffff -> RE: Intresting Question (2/11/2008 12:10:15 PM)

as an aside. in another thread...LaTigress..made Prince her bitch today.......just thought you'd want to know

Jeff

giveeverything -> RE: Intresting Question (2/11/2008 12:14:17 PM)

OMG... don't make me hi jack again.  I will be Prince's bitch any day and time.  The KING OF nasty.  I'm drowlling now.  That sexy motherfucker.

reason for edit:  I can't spell people.

Nyarlathotep, known to the Arab peasants as the Black Man, may not be so forgiving.

But in the end, when Azathoth wakes up and the mad dream ends, it will not matter anyway.

Health,
al-Aswad.

The only people I need forgiveness from are those who've I've wronged.  And when I'm dead I look forward to the long sleep that makes me food for worms.

What!  Me worry?

The only person I need forgiveness from is me. And like my namesake, I'm not very forgiving.

The traditional blessing of the fictive *Edimmuka Gûlam comes to mind:

«May Oblivion's peace comfort your mind and rest your soul.»

I am looking forward to my life in the hereafter....I am looking forward to seeing a few people! Namely my two Grandmothers, Paul(from the New Testament) and Jesus. [:)]

I should hope they have better things to do than to wait around for me.

However, I would very much like to meet Paul, if he's there, as I'd like to pluck the feathers off his wings one by one before I toss him off a cloud.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Sexism in this life is enough... I don't need it in the eternal here after.

Hey, I never said you wouldn't get to talk to him first. Lots of people probably want to talk to him first. He's got a lot to answer for.

And I wasn't planning on plucking your wings, either... unless of course you'd like me to (and provided your dear doesn't mind), that is. [:D]

Health,
al-Aswad.

Bingo. Not to mention the perversion of values that guy can take credit for. Along with centuries of oppression and persecution.

Health,
al-Aswad.

spatejak -> RE: Intresting Question (2/11/2008 4:50:05 PM)

It's based on a whole series of badly written science fiction novels. There is underlying, largely Nietzschen philosophy, which I don't really buy. There is also a very elaborate code of conduct for slaves, which does interest me: how they should talk, how they should kneel, how they should serve food and drink, etc. Just google Gor, and you'll find almost all of what you could want. It's certainly easier than reading the books.
