Hmmm..you would think with as much snow as Nashville saw, they would have been prepared for snow by now.

...As for equipment, we haven't had a good snow in over a decade so why should we be prepared?   After all, maintaining that equipment costs money.

Yes, that's what New Orleans thought too.  I am sure that tune has changed today.

My point exactly MH, thank you for this :)

What equipment in New Orleans? I seem to remember structures failing because the federal Government- as the Corps of Engineers- didn't bother to do maintenance or build appropriate structures, although they a spectacular job of building a funnel to drive storm surge into a ten foot drainage canal levy.

I believe this is Mine and Lady Hathor's point. There were No equipment to handle that, and there is not any equipment to handle the snow in Nashville, TN.

TheBanshee,
I met Bobby in the early 80's, in a bar in Bartow, Florida. The girls I was with bet me that I wouldnt approach him. I did. I walked up to him and said this "Are you Bobby Sherman?" he said "Why, yes I am" I said, "Cool, I haven't seen you since you were on my lunch pail for school" lol. The rest is as they say history. He offered me a drink and I sat and talked to him for hours, and when the bar closed we went to Denny's and sat up the rest of the night. We spent the day together, and that night...well..I will leave to your imagination. We still speak and email to this day.

HEY - btw you non-expat Brits. Do you still have those chocs which looked like smarties on growth hormones? Toffe like center, chocolate layer then a candy shell? ("Melts in your mouth, not in your hands." - jeez, the power of advertising to remember that but not the name, after over forty years, I mean twenty years...)

Which is another remember to add here - How many advertising slogans and jingles can you remember from the murky mists of your youth. It's scary how accurately I rember jingles. Get out of my head!

Z.

Funny, I remember that slogan as a kid growing up in London.  They were called "Treets" but maybe later re-branded as  M&Ms.

Don't know if this will clear it up, or make it worse...

We need to stop talking about chocolate. I'm on my third day of banning unnatural sugars from my diet, it's killing me!

I remember when people sat UPRIGHT to ride a bicycle. I was talking about this the other week and remarked that I still prefer the old bikes that had a much lower cross bar for ladies to use instead of them having to hike their leg over the bike.

Evaporated milk in practically every household to use instead of cream.

White sliced loaves were considered 'rat food' b/c the pest control people would use slices to lure the buggers out before killing them.

The worst curse words used were 'sodding' and 'blimey'.

Yorkshire pudding served with Jam.

My Dear friend, I am from New Orleans, I am far from bashing the people--My comment was on behalf of the people--not against them.  And My reference to equipment was to anything a city or state needs to ensure the safety of its people, provided by whatever agency is tasked with ti--like levees.

I can remember when...

The French Market was a vegetable and seafood market end to end

Puglias was the fav Quarter store for groceries

I lived in the nice 2nd floor apartment on Burgundy before Channel 4 took the building over

Garland and Angela got married

The Parades rolled through the Quarter

People knew the city for the history and the culture, not sluts flasing boobs for beads.

I was a New Orleans Police Officer.

I Remember........

When Eagle River, Alaska was a dirt path. No lights, three bars and one restaurant. Now it actually has a Walmart!!
