Hands down, "When Harry Met Sally" because "when you meet the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you want the rest of your life to start right away."

After that, a tie:  "Love Affair" and "Dr. Zhivago".

I picked "An Officer and A Gentleman" and it's one of my most favoritest movies.  But, I have to say, my first thought was also, "Love Story" and "The Notebook."

I like it too :) You know, I've never seen either Love Story or The Notebook.... I tried to just put up films I have seen. My favorite one is Madison County.

Sid and Nancy

It makes the Princess Bride and Casablanca look like a grade school romance....This is a love story for big people.....

Nancy: I'll never look like Barbie. Barbie doesn't have bruises.

[getting off the phone with her parents]
Nancy: I fucking hate them! I fucking hate them! Fucking motherfuckers! They wouldn't send us any money! They said we'd spend it on DRUGS!
Sid: We would!

Nancy: I hate my fuckin' life.
Sid: This is just a rough patch. Things'll be much better when we get to America, I promise.
Nancy: We're in America. We've been here a week. New York is in America, you fuck.

Sid: You know, I was so bored once that I fucked a dog.

Nancy: [Pointing] No! Look, that's the roller ramma. Sid, I won a roller skating trophy there when I was six years old.
Granma: Nancy, don't fib.
Nancy: Fuck you, Grandma.

One of my favorite movies....An epic love story that the big screen has never been able to replicate.

I choose Starman.

It just had so many great lines.

"Dutch Apple Pie"

It is worth seeing Level. His death is terrible tragedy and what really bothered me was media circus shortly after his untimely death.

Level -> RE: "Greatest" romantic flick of all time (2/11/2008 6:41:15 PM)

Hey fairer; it was a terrific movie, wasn't it?

fairerthanshe -> RE: "Greatest" romantic flick of all time (2/11/2008 6:41:56 PM)

Greetings Level,

There is a wonderful film called "Now, Voyager" with Bette Davis and Paul Henreid (Victor Lazlo in Casablanca).  Its my favorite romantic movie, but I haven't been able to watch since I quit smoking.  Paul Henreid lights two cigarettes simultaneously and hands one to Bette Davis.  Its such an intimate gesture the way he does it.

It also has one of the best last lines from a movie:  "Oh Jerry, we have the moon.  Let's not ask for the stars."

great poll and happy valentines day ~ fairer than she

Starman was great - truly one of the best romantic story lines ever.

Can't have really good sex in a box car without thinking "Dutch Apple Pie"...okay really good sex anywhere!

hugs ~ fairer

Pulp Fiction.

My favorite line was when Captain Koons said

"Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch.
I hid with this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years.
Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family.
And now, little man, I give the watch to you."

How romantic is that?

Out of Africa.
Secretary would be a close second.
Love Actually a pretty distant third.
Pretty Woman is up there, too.
