When it comes to wearing a buttplug longterm: It's generally best to select a plug that is firm, but soft, and sized appropriately. Hard or oversized plugs have consequences when worn longterm that most of us, Dom and Sub, aren't prepared to accept. Latex, silicone, and PVC are all good choices for longterm wear, but I would not suggest acrylic, glass, or jelly plugs for more than short term play. Make sure the plug flares at the base to avoid 'loss' followed by an embarassing trip to a medical facility for help with extraction! Depending on your toilet habits, it is possible and safe for many to wear a plug nonstop for more than 12 hours without serious repercussions. If the plug is sized appropriately for longterm wear passing gas around it should not be a problem. It may be uncomfortable, but is not dangerous. Removal for bowel movements is necessary and should not be postponed. Every couple of hours it is a good idea to remove it temporarily to reapply lubrication, before putting it right back in there (No cheating!). This will help avoid any adhesion and lessen the unlikely chance of any tearing of the delicate tissues in the area. A lube appropriate for the type of plug should be used, though water-based lubes do need more frequent application. We should all know not to used oil-based lubes with latex toys, and not to use silicone lubes with silicone toys... right? Subs, including long-distance or cyber subs, do need to look after their own safety. Any concerns about the safety of any activity should be discussed with your Dom - and any Dom worth their salt would encourage that. In your case, I would not have suggested that you 'arbitrarily' decide to take the plug out after 12 hours. It would have been better to have figured that out with your Dom prior. As in "You will wear the plug until I say you can take it out. In case something happens to me, if you have not heard from my within "x number of hours" you may remove it." My two cents... - Rogue86
