Alumbrado, maybe I'm missing something, but this is what I see on my screen (the "in reply to" in bold red) ... I can see why kittinsol would be confused. I would be, especially because of the "you and jeanie" thing. If I were her, I'd think you were speaking to me too. I'm not trying to stir the pot, just pointing things out from another perspective.

Both you and jeanie are glossing over the fact that the Israeli government and Zionists have enormous propaganda leverage from the stated goal of Palestinian and other leaders to kill all the Jews on the face of the earth, coupled with attempts to do so in the past.

This has never been about returning a small number of Palestinians to their native soil. This is always first and foremost, about killing Jews, and killing those who want to kill Jews, and then killing those who want to kill the Jew killers....and so on ad nauseum...

Since the Iranians haven't killed off the Jews in Iran, one might guess they won't kill them off at all. Maybe the American media don't report what Iran actually says, it seems like they don't by the reaction of most Americans. Iran says its argument is with the western backed zionist state, not with ordinary Jews.

Well the Iranians said it, it must be true.

I have no doubt that if there is nothing standing in their way they will attempt to kill all the Jews.

Hopefully they will honor the treaties that have been signed.

I wonder what the Democrats and Obama plan to do if they are in power and the Iranians decide to bomb Israel.

Americans should really ask themselve why they are so paranoid about Iran while the rest of the world isn't. Could it be that America has never got over the humiliation of being kicked out of Iran in the revolution, the same way it has never got over being kicked out of Cuba? Could it be because the US media just publishes and broadcasts propaganda?

America really needs to get over it. Jeez, other countries have had national humiliations and not allowed them to get in the way of creating positive future relationships with the countries involved.

Thank you, batshalom; I'm glad to hear I wasn't alone in reading... what I read.

Alumbrado, you're welcome to explain that you made a mistake.

I would assume that they will stand by and watch and wring their hands and bemoan the fact that Iran would be wiped off the face of the earth.

But we haven't seen the mother of all wars out of that area in a long, long time.

He`s jumped on my ass before,b/c of that little (in reply to *****) thingy in the lower right corner. That`s a site function and not something we control.

I was responding to someone else`s post but that thingy said(in reply to Alumbrado) and he questioned me over it.At the time,I didn`t even know what he was talking about or referring to.

How it reads is a function of when you started writing your post ,not necessarily who you`re replying to.

A good fix would be to add a name at the start of a post/reply ,so we know who`s talking to who. There`ll be less confusion that way.

kittinSol -> RE: Iran: Israel will soon disappear (2/21/2008 7:29:13 AM)

The confusion goes even deeper than that, Owner :-). He may have hit quick reply, and it landed on my lap, but he quoted someone else, so it really looked like he was attributing that quote to me. It's annoying.

I very rarely hit 'quick reply' for that very reason.

Jumping on technical issues to stir things up is a bit futile in the end.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Iran: Israel will soon disappear (2/21/2008 7:38:37 AM)

~FR~ = Fast Reply

Just add that little ~FR~ to the top of your post and fast reply can work fine.

kittinSol -> RE: Iran: Israel will soon disappear (2/21/2008 7:44:18 AM)

It isn't I who had a confusion with fast reply on this thread though, it's Alumbrado lol!

mnottertail -> RE: Iran: Israel will soon disappear (2/21/2008 7:49:04 AM)

This is the sort of ineptness that is going to make Israel disappear.  Just one big cock-up after another, all a big misunderstaning.

Jeffff -> RE: Iran: Israel will soon disappear (2/21/2008 8:25:18 AM)

After reading this entire thread. is it any wonder the region is so hotly divided. When differing people on a message board can not  find any common ground is there any hope?

kittinSol -> RE: Iran: Israel will soon disappear (2/21/2008 8:29:43 AM)

When have you ever read a thread where there was a happy consensus, Jeffwey :=) ? Disagreements are cool; it's when people start bombing each other that there's a problem. Or when they fight over a little strip of land...

I'll note that claiming to not know that the 'in reply to' line is computer generated does not address the fact that the quote in my post was from RL, and that I have clearly identified it as such.

KittinSol has pulled this 'I don't understand Quick Reply' stunt before in order to hijack threads and deflect attention from the Holocaust and its aftermath to her.

When the shoe was on the other foot, she understood just fine that what appears in the bottom corner has nothing to do with who the reply was addressed to, and she knows good and well that she was not the author of the quote that I addressed.

(And Owner59 is conveniently forgetting that he took my sigfile at the time, and attached it directly to a forged quote, which I promptly called him on...he also feigned ignorance instead of clarifying who he was quoting.)

I do not 'support Israel'; I support Israel's right, as a sovereign nation, to go about its business. This is largely hindered by the fact that there is a mini state inside Israel which advocates its destruction.

I agree with kittinSol's comments in a sense.

The problem I have with Isreal dates back to the circumstances of it's creation, and the fact that it has bullied and harassed and picked fights with it's neighbors ever since.  If Isreal went about it's business without relying on the fact that the US will come to it's aid no matter frequently it violates the civil rights of the people who live in it's borders, and picks fights with it's neighbors, I would not care one iota about whether Isreal exists or fades.  I do not have much respect for those who go around bullying other people while harping endlessly about being afraid of other people bullying them.

The problem Isreal has right now is the neo-cons have squandered America's military power in an insane boondoggle and we lack the ability to come to Isreal's aid if her long history of picking fights actually results in somebody like Iran actually invading.

On a related note, Isreal is much more well equipped to deal with an invasion than Iran is equipped to actually invade.  I think Iran's warlike stance is nothing more than jingoistic rhetoric, used in response to the jingoistic rhetoric the Right is using in the United States to whip people into a warlike hysteria.  Goebbels had much to say at the 1934 Nuremberg Rally on the subject of propaganda, and the Bush Administration seems to have learned well from him.

The countries I suspect are on their way out are Jordan, Syria, and Egypt, largely because the centuries of brutality and intolerance towards those with religious differences in their own borders finally bear fruit.

What the hell are you talking about, Alumbrado? This is just about the most offensive thing you've ever written - and you've quite a history. I don't know what you're trying to achieve with such ugly tactics; but it stinks.

Shalom.

The countries you mention have not been intolerant of people with religious differences for centuries. In fact they haven't been countries for centuries as they were all regions of the Ottoman Empire until between 1880 and 1914. There was great tolerance between peoples in the Ottoman Empire, even though the Ottomans themselves were somewhat brutal but they weren't brutal against people of other religions, they were just brutal, the reason the Arabs hate and mistrust the Turks to this day. Before the religious nut Balfour made his declaration and encouraged zionists and immigration of Jews from outside the Trans-Jordanian region, the Arabs and Jews in the region got on just fine, the vast majority speaking each others language and both populations were completely mixed.

http://www.history.com/maps.do?type=view&catName=Europe&catId=229&letter=O&mapId=1102&mapName=Decline+of+the+Ottoman+Empire%2C+1174-1914

The reason for any intolerance in the region on behalf of the Arabs can be roundly blamed on the western powers, from French and British double dealing to the USA's unconditional support and bankrolling of Israel while Israel carries on stealing Arab land.
