All those fucked up approaches work which is why people do them.  Look at how many threads we get about "my mentor wants me to to fuck his buddy to train me" threads we get.  Using guilt, aggression, old guard, mentor, and training as come on lines work on all sorts of people.

I'm guessing that is because you don't want to do otherwise.

Well lets go devil's advocate here. Collar Me is a site that supposedly a Dom can go to find a sub hook up and live happily ever after. If a Dominant or Domme is looking for a slave or submissive reaction that comes from instinct they might try the direct approach feeling if they don't respond well as a first reaction then they do not possess the degree of submission they are looking for. Now from personal experience this works well in person leona responded very well to a direct act of pulling her to the wall and pulling her hair. My poenkitten may have hit me with the opening line to show availabilty but the direct actions I took after that made many of my guest blush or at least talk. In person a dominant can speak with body language, tone and looks that work very well and can spark a submissives instictual reactions. But that does not work very well online especially when it is being done thousands of times in email and each looking exactly like the last it kind of loses the uniqueness of it. Now what does work online in my experience is purple prose and poetry. Not many dominants try thier hands at that and exotic erotic imagry can spark the imagination of most submissives. It is not ubiquitous, and words can melt various defensive measures when cuningly applied. God knows poenkittens poetry got me right in the kiester (Though I never admit to it ).

Just another God awful post from the fine makers of depravity

Apologies in advance for makin' nasty with the words of Dr. Suess.

There are so many "new" Doms here who find it surprising that submissive women don't appreciate being called vile names at "Hello."  It seems so absurd to me that I wonder if it's a real life phenomenon.  If it is, I do not understand the mindset of thinking that would be okay.  But then I look at female dominants, and they seem to do pretty much whatever they please.  (I'm thinkin' of jumping over to the dark side; I hear tell they have cookies - just kiddin'!)

Is there an energy that comes out of the gate (in BDSM terms) that makes unexperienced male Doms think that newly introduced females will respond to that kind of thing (read:  testosterone overload or something)?

Or is it online crap that you would never see in a r/l exchange.  I've been to a few parties and such and never seen it.  The most forward thing that happened to me was a male in drag who was hosting a party I attended offered me his hand to kiss.  I shook it like a Mormon missionary.

In the beginning, did you think that was a good approach?  Have you ever used it successfully in a first time encounter?

*Edited to add the word "hand" which was most important for the sentence.

I don't personally do that. In fact, last summer I was solicited for phone domination and sex by a sub on CM. When we talked the first time, she decided it wasn't going to work because I DIDN'T call her vile enough names!

Because I was brought up to be polite, My Mother was a very old fashioned strong woman for whom politeness was a way of life, it's rubbed off on me.

Here's another way it works... "Dom" sends nasty message.  "sub" feels compelled to respond.  "Dom" gets a response.  Sometimes a negative response is still a response so at least he's getting some attention.  THEN he gets further attention by being the subject of a thread on this side of CM.  It's like a 15 minutes of fame kind of thing.

How many threads are there about "Gee, i get the most lovely emails!" ?

It's a never ending cycle really. It isn't nearly limited to D/s either. People in general have communication issues today.

On one hand, there are people who are raised to, no matter what, always show certain courtesies when first meeting someone. Then, on the other hand, there are people who just desire something, and woe to anyone who isn't along the same lines of thought.

I'm a switch, so I actively challenge something that I don't feel is worthy of submission. This includes anyone who doesn't feel the need to take time to be a person first, they must just make grabby hands and commands as if it will just fall into their laps. The only reason it works is people let it, I'm just not one of them.

i must be doing something wrong.  Even when i get emails from Doms who have obviously not read my profile, i have never gotten a "kneel before me slut" message.  About the worst thing i've heard is some massively suggestive compliments.  With a few obvious acceptions, it's all a bit subjective.  In a chat room one night, my Master called me His wench (which is His pet name for me) and another Dom thought that was offensive.  Different strokes for . . . well insert your own pun here.

I usually can say I never have such interactions, but this morning I was proven wrong.

Someone I've never spoken to before sent a mail with the entire message being "hi sl*t"

Thusly, I responded with a "you're kidding, right?"

Apparently, such guys get highly offended at the fact that this is a BDSM community, but there are girls who don't throw themselves into a bow at random strangers who say hello with insults. Go figure.

oh wow, I hope you tore them a new one, hehe. I'm not quite sure what's worse, things like this, or ones who go into such grotesque details that you feel the need to shower after reading it.
