How can I feel guilty about a fictional situation that may or may not exist?

You've considered her entire life in your head in that moment? In all likeliness she'll get fired for being useless at the job.[:D]

Thus when you return the $45 she'll be on the streets working as a prostitute to give her helpless child the medicine he needs.

Everything we do has consequences and is part of a greater chains of events; we might as well try act in ways which are most likely to have positive repercussions. Kindness has a snowballing effect :-) . Not that I'm all that talented at it :-( .

SL4: you're a hopeless cynic [:D] .

That is why I am nasty and mean because if I wasn't nasty and mean people wouldn't be able to feel all good about being superior to me. I provide a service.

So I guess there's a whole ton of people in this world who are better people than me.  Well, at least on this website. I don't take the high road, it just gives me a nosebleed.

Cali

i'm not better than anyone else.  i think of a WHOLE lot of wickedness to do in revenge towards people who have hurt me and mine.

its the gut feeling i get when i contemplate *really* doing those things that i cant live with.  noble?  maybe.  chickenshit?  maybe that too.  [:)]

honestly i read some of this thread giggling with my hand over my mouth thinking "OMG i'd never have the nerve!!"

am i happier within myself than someone that does get revenge?  nope.  its just not something that i do.

kitten, thoughtfully

kittinSol -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/8/2008 1:28:52 PM)

I actually just succumbed to the evil power of vengeance after getting my first "cock shot" on the other side.

hopelessfool -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/8/2008 1:30:14 PM)

I had the choice between being smug and sarcastic, or getting my hair highlighted...

Being smug and sarcastic IS much easier to maintain.

As for revenge, wanted to partake in it, never had the balls at the time to do it -sighs- I really need to buy more tennis balls.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/8/2008 1:33:28 PM)

kittinSol if you sent him an abusive email he may jump in front of a train and then his son that just happens to be dying of a lethal ear infection will have no one to buy him the medicine he needs. Do you want this on your head I ask?

kittinSol -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/8/2008 1:36:01 PM)

Well, it wasn't abusive, it was short, mocking and to the point.

Think he's going to top himself??? Or cut his tiny little dick off???

Shit... you know, I'm really enjoying the power of the DARKSIDE [sm=cool.gif] .

I'm surprised that you couldn't take hippie's post in the spirit it was written.
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want someone to screw you over just because they could, or just because you made an error. And, yes, when someone makes a mistake, and you take advantage of their mistake for your own betterment, you are screwing them over. You *might* not want to think of the repercussions and how it affects their life or how it affects yours. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen though. And most cashiers, I'm quite sure, can little afford to make up cash lost, or to be out of a job...
That's not being holier that thou, it's called being empathetic. Aka, doing unto others as you would have them do unto you...

angelbluewingsz -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/8/2008 1:42:19 PM)

Who me? Revenge? have you talked to my ex? his brakes failed! I swear, I have no idea that if you accidentally let all of that oily stuff out they wouldn't work...ooops... must have been a blond moment.

It's that old "butterfly flapping it's wings in the highlands of Mexico causes a Tsunami in Sri Lanka" thing.

Or "Practice random acts of Kindness."

Not that I live up to my own standards always. I miss the goal from time to time. But that's OK.

In all obviousness I was joking and I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve bothered to check the change for surplus of $45. I think the clunky pocket weighing me down for the rest of the day might be a giveaway though.

I’m surprised you are surprised that someone on the internet that you don’t know from Adam reacts in a way you don’t expect.

CalifChick -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/8/2008 2:16:59 PM)

Well, first of all, I live in California where it is illegal for employers to require employees to make up financial shortfalls. (yeah, sometimes I'm a stickler for details).

Random acts of kindness? Well, it wasn't $45, but I'm pretty sure the buck and change I forked out at Xmas qualified (see my journal post if you care about the details, too much to post here). It wasn't the amount of money, it was the gesture.

My "I'm a bitch sometimes" post was in response to some others who felt a need to handslap people who posted revenge stories, no matter how awful or how trivial (and in the grand scheme of things, I think my voicemail "revenge" was pretty minor, especially considering how much other help I gave them when I didn't have to).

Would I like to always do the right thing? Sure. Probably make my life easier, who knows. Not gonna see it happening any time soon. Oh well.

Cali

Slow down, dear. I'm using what you wrote
(So I guess there's a whole ton of people in this world who are better people than me.  Well, at least on this website. I don't take the high road, it just gives me a nosebleed.) as a springboard for my own beliefs, and to say that I do NOT consider myself "better" than anyone else.  Please go back and re-read the second paragraph in my previous post. If it seems unclear, ask for clarification.

My example was just that, an example. I made it up to make a point. Sort of like a Parable, yanno?

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/8/2008 8:16:13 PM)

I almost got a friend to rig up a spider and spam a bunch of virus's to a snarky bitchy * ok add  liar to those words*domme in the lifestyle who's email is posted quite prominantly all over the web. I also considered using her email name to sign up for the worst thigns possible on the net, but I chose not to cause I didn' wish to make my pc sick in the process of signing her up.

I also took a few of her pictures and modified them in photoshop for my own personal amusement and wrote does this picture make me look ugly. I didn't send them out though, just modified for my own amusement.

selena13 -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/9/2008 7:07:19 PM)

Shaving cream on his car. It phucks with the paint finish. Done when I was a teenager. I'm older and wiser now.
As someone already said, the best revenge is living well. Makes haters choke with envy.  [:D]

adoracat -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/10/2008 1:49:32 AM)

my friend erikur.  they took a can of shaving cream, froze it in liquid nitrogen, cut the ends off the can and put the frozen contents in someone's car....apparently when that stuff defrosts, it sprays itself all over the car....

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/12/2008 4:52:18 PM)

They did something about that on myth busters, only the myth was that after freezing it shaving cream would fill the entire car. And that's just not true.  no matter how much shaving cream they froze and put it, it didn't fill the entire car. More like just the back seat. which don't get me wrong would be mighty annoying in itself.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Revenge is a dish best served cold (3/12/2008 4:57:01 PM)

Not really revenge, but more along the practical joke line...
my brother in law, when he was in college, took baby powder and made a big pile outside of his friends dorm room door.  Then he took a hair dryer and proceeded to blow the powder underneath the door.  End result....the entire room was completely covered in a layer of baby powder.  He actually felt bad.  He didn't think it would be that effective.  I saw the pics.  Hysterical!  Oh yeah.  He (as in the friend) was in the room sleeping at the time.

*Nods* never fuck with a waiter/waitress, bartender, kitchen staff, etc., or be prepared to face and consume the consequences.

That being said, usually,I've found, revenge is uneccesary since most assholes almost always self-destruct.
