From an RN’s point of view that has been expelled from the safety police for too much edge play. Just some basic info.
It is an act more common among males, I suppose because of the length of the urethra (6 inches in males vs. approx 1.5 in females) means more stimulation before hitting liquid gold.
The urethra is surprisingly elastic, I had the pleasure?? of observing a TURP and the size of the scope they put down this guys penis made me cringe, cross my legs, and break out in a sweat, and that was before the aroma hit.
Think of the urethra as a vagina, with a lot of ‘attention’ it does expand and takes time to resume it’s former dimensions. Prolonged “attention’ might make it larger than nature intended but nothing extraordinary.
The largest foley ™ cath I have used was a 32 french (slightly larger than the big red pencils you got in kindergarten) used for continuous bladder irrigation, so there is no need to worry about a urethra becoming too big.
For beginners in urethral play, my advice would be to start with a 14 french catheter kit, it has all the required sterile supplies needed to play, maintain sterile or extremely clean area around the play site. The cath is also made of silicone which reduces the chances of too much trauma. It is also cheaper than a set of sterile sounds, so if you find out you do not like it, it does not cost as much. If you do like it, you can always spurge on a set.
Risks: UTIs, pylonephritis, scarring of the urethra causing strictures, difficulty urinating, “dribbling” after play, and a not nice burning sensation due to temporary mucosal damage.
