It amazes me the lengths that people will go to be upset about trivial matters.

I'd put forth that what is trivial for you isn't necessarily the same for others.  It is VERY important to me.  I consider it a source of pride, respect, and submission for her to want to wear a collar in public.

Other people have different views, but I don't condemn them for it.

A wedding ring is far more acceptable in modern society than a visible collar, at least in my world.

But to each his or her own need for validation.

WaratahBlossoms -> RE: Collar Ideals? (3/7/2008 9:36:17 AM)

My youngest boy chose his collar. It's a plain black dog collar from Petsmart and a little pink heart tag that says, simply, "pet." I wanted him to be comfortable with what he chose and he liked that.

He wears it at home, to school, and even to work. The only time it comes off is when he showers. Then right back on it goes.  It seems to go marvelously with everything he wears and he adores it.

I think that if she's refusing to wear it, you need to find a collar that she CANNOT remove on her own. A large chunky one with a lock that only you hold the key to. If she's going to remove it, she needs to be punished with it. Embarass her at work, with friends, and around family. Teach her that if she's going to remove it, you're going to have to be stricter with her and force her to wear it.

In accepting the collar, she should have learned that she belongs to you and that she does NOT have the right to remove what it bestowed to her.

Tell her sternly that the next time she removes it and "misplaces" it, then you are going to remove and "misplace" your wedding band. Teach her that you can play that game just as well but you'll be the one that wins it.

Interesting. However, you did call your submissive a "superficial bitch" for wanting to be fashionable. I don't condemn anyone for their interests; I have my opinion and stated it.

A collar is VERY important to me.  My slave wears an eternity collar, which locks on with an allen wrench.  I always have a key with me, but to remove it she'd have to go to a hardware store and buy something.  It would clearly be an intentional act on her part.  Part of why I liked the eternity collar was that it's a subtle type of collar, very durable, attractive (in our opinion) and in the almost six months together she's never had a problem with comfort.

I agree that eternity collars are perfect because they are fairly discrete and really pretty far better for day to day wear than big leather things. Sirs girlie has a heavy silver chain with a padlock, everyone juse comments on how unusual it is more than anything else and silver goes with anything.

After that, she will be gratrful for the collar you...pick.

Sarcasm is in the eye of the beholder. I am less likely to sugar coat my replies, so sorry if that offends you or anyone else.

I find it ironic how cute kittens look in collars...and how much they tend to hate them [;)]

not all kittens do....some walk around showing them off proudly...then they are shunned by the other cats for being freakish...then we run back and curl up in Daddy's lap cause he still loves us....thanks for the reminder....[:(]

Firegoddez -> RE: Collar Ideals? (3/7/2008 9:50:31 AM)

My Master went on subshop.com and looked through the collars. He found one that met both of our requirements. I have a high profile job and he wanted something that couldn't be hidden or removed.

The being removed thing is a moot point because I am very happy to be collared and would never remove it on my own. It's a pride thing. It's his way of showing he is proud to own me, and I am proud to be his. Have you tried just talking to her about what's wrong with the idea of a collar?

domahpet -> RE: Collar Ideals? (3/7/2008 9:50:38 AM)

ive worn both, a heavy duty, and a dainty little collar.
id never take them off unless i was told to do so.
a collar is a big sign of respect that should be worn
in the doms presence at all times, as well as a sign that the sub is
off the market. mine were also symbols of pride (of me for my Dom).
if she is refusing to wear it, it may be an issue other then 'comfort'
that you may want to get to the bottom of, soon.

Lashra -> RE: Collar Ideals? (3/7/2008 9:52:49 AM)

If the collar is uncomfortable then get a new one that isn't. Perhaps a necklace with a lock pendant on it or something. Some people just cannot wear something around their neck like that, perhaps she is one of them.

Good Luck,

kittinSol -> RE: Collar Ideals? (3/7/2008 9:55:39 AM)

I once had one of those heavy duty steel collars... I'm not prone to allergies, but I got a humongous rash around my neck. Not pretty: the collar was embedded in my skin. Put me right off. Then got leather, but thought it a bit tacky.

I'm waiting 'till we can afford solid platinum 950. That'll do the trick, I think [8D] .

The actions are speaking loudly.  It's obviously not special to her.

Damn, I love platinum.

White gold's a good second choice though.

kittinSol -> RE: Collar Ideals? (3/7/2008 10:35:25 AM)

Hmmm... I don't like white gold, because it constantly needs to be rhodium plated to keep its whiteness. White gold is just yellow gold with an alloid on top.

I discovered the poor man's platinum: palladium. It's from the same family as Plat., with a lower melting point (but unless one's about to get roasted, that's immaterial).

It's far less expensive... for now. It's also lighter, lower density, so it'd be far more comfortable worn around the neck. A platinum collar would be far, far too heavy for the average human being [:D] .

My wife/sub and I recently acquired a collar for her, yet she claims it's uncomfortable (it's worn loose), has misplaced it, and forgets to wear it when she knows I'd prefer her to. I have tried both positive and negative re-enforcement, and we have settled her issues with wearing it in view of the vanilla public, yet my expectations are not being met, even having reasonably lowered them. I was wondering what the lifestyle community at large considers "proper" collar ettiquete, what a Dom/Daddydom should expect, and how the submissive would better learn to please in that regard. She has no problem wearing it to lifestyle functions, and no other problems with my control.

Similar to what everyone else has said it doesn't sound like she values the collar.  Perhaps she doesn't deserve a collar then?

C~
