There is definitely a lot of spirituality when I Dom.  Energy flows from within me to my sub be it male or female.  The energy is shared sometimes not even of a sexual nature.  My touch play is tantric and tantric play is very spiritual.  I recently found out that my play style was tantric and in turn I started to learn more about it.  Everything we do in life has a spiritual significance we just may not realize it.  Each time we touch the soul or spirit of another human even just to make the smile or laugh we brighten them spiritualy.  I know for me if I Dom or sub either way without a spiritual connection to my partner even as just friends I won't enjoy the play.   But that is just me.

it's not when i dom, i am dom

Well I'm a Switch thus why I say when I am Dom because depending on my partner I can switch or even be just submissive but that is very Rare occasion.

So, we seem to be hot on religion and spirituality at the moment, who believes their spirituality is part of their kink or by engaging in what they do, they are seeking spiritual fulfillment? It takes all sorts in this kinky realm, I know that, my spirituality is part of my kink, even spiritualities of other beliefs figure in my explorations, is anyone else the same?

It can be. It doesn't have to be.

Health,
al-Aswad.

I'm a moderately spiritual/religious person but I don't consider my sexuality heavily linked to it at all other than, "Forgive me father, I've committed fornication several times since my last confession, and I'm probably going to do it again."

AlexandraLynch -> RE: Seeing as spirituality is a hot topic...... (12/28/2009 11:52:28 PM)

I am a slave of the gods. I have known this since well before I started playing actively. It is why, though theoretically a switch, the conditions under which I can submit are rather difficult to arrange, and it puts on the top some extra restrictions and responsibilities that not too many people I've met locally are capable of handling. But I can dominate, and so I do, and bring to it the responsibility of reflecting the Goddess through myself. For me, a scene is sacred.

Of course, this mostly impacts me and what I do and how I do it, and doesn't so much interfere with the lives of those around me.

This is an old thread.

I feel it is all sacred.

Sorry no spirit here. Just me being myself.

Echo.

Truly, Nihilism should begin with the self...

In that vein, there are a lot of parallels between BDSM and shamanic traditions, which often involve ways and means of ego transcendence, often though pain.

Having done all that the old fashioned way, I'm a little more into the eroteleptic experience as a mode of transcendence and self knowledge, although some people just call it trippen'.

i want my kink to be nasty and as far from spirituality as i can keep it
Much of religious tradition is concerned with the juxtaposition of the matter and the energy, the sacred and profane, the corruption of the physical world and the purity of the spiritual one - in Zoroastrian dualism, the two are at war, whereas Tantric duality seeks to reconcile them and achieve a balance.

I prefer the Tantric route: it's a conflict nobody can win, until you actually shed your corporeal envelope, so you might as well deal with it.

aldompdx -> RE: Seeing as spirituality is a hot topic...... (12/30/2009 8:06:48 PM)

A great many aspects of BDSM are congruous with the endeavour to more directly experience of one's spirit or deeper self or god. They key is to avoid a false ego association that the experience comes from the external activity, rather than from openness to the inner source of the feeling. That is, fulfillment arises from the only place it is ever felt, one's very own heart.

GotSteel -> RE: Seeing as spirituality is a hot topic...... (12/30/2009 9:14:44 PM)

The heart pumps blood. It has nothing to do with a sense of fulfillment.

It's sometimes hard to tell the difference between sarcasm and AS.

GotSteel -> RE: Seeing as spirituality is a hot topic...... (12/31/2009 4:10:35 PM)

I’m familiar with a number of such expressions. My point was that while using the heart to symbolically represent our emotions, love, the soul or any of a half dozen other things might be fine for poetry or meaningless platitudes it is counterproductive to obscure your  point with such an expression.
