I hate when I can't figure something out.

It's been on my mind a bit... Why are we responding to black lion's threads?  What is it about the topics that are causing some pretty together, strong minded people to respond?

I'm trying to take his threads seriously because they are serious topics even if they are presented in a less than rational way.  But it doesn't change the ability for us to have a serious discussion.  Why are we responding to being baited (note that I said "we" and not "YOU ALL")?  What is it about these topics that are causing reaction and then second generation actions (like lushy's thread and my own changing of my sig line).  What is going on with us?

And this is a serious question.  I've been thinking about it.  I know that I changed my sig line because although he was trying to insult me, he was actually saying something true about me.  I am a woman of wisdom.  Just as my father called me "queer" in a contemptible way, and I embraced that, so too have I embraced that man's attempted insult.  But what do I really care?  I know I'm wise, people who care for me know it, so why do I feel a need to stand up and push that envelope?

What is it that he is saying that is pushing so many buttons?  We aren't good enough as we are? We aren't behaving properly?  We aren't pretty?  Is the response some sort of acknowledgment of our own deepest darkest fears?  Of things we've dealt with but still niggle us in the backs of our minds?   Has he tapped into our own personal feelings of inadequacy?

I see him saying "you women aren't good enough."  And we are hollering back 'OH YES WE ARE!'   Why in the world are we responding?  (again "we" not "you all").

I've seen so many people here be supportive and kind to people who are having difficulties, we celebrate each other's triumphs, give each other advice.  And we all know... WE ALL KNOW... that guy is acting like a jerk or a bully... why are we, grown people, responding to him?   I think Kia said something about serious topics get only a few pages and nonsensical threads will go to many pages.  I would respond that serious topics get longer, thought out responses while the nonsensical ones get one and two sentence replies.   But why are we so defensive?

What is going on?

Why are we responding to black lion's threads?

I had this discussion with DB and Linea last weekend and they both thought it was  serious waste of time and energy.  All I could say was, "But, but..."  (Yeah, that's a valid reason there, Red.)  So, I decided to block and ignore.  It's one of the first times that I've ever done it because I just can't stand the sight of him or deal with the visual assault my eyes take when reading his garbage.  My CM time is more happily spent being silly with friends rather than deflecting dumb remarks made by an online attention-seeker.

BKSir -> RE: I hate it when........ (11/8/2009 4:31:07 PM)

I don't mind responding to them.  Or at least to the people that bring valid posts to the table.  The rest, I just don't pay attention to, and let them yap on their merry way. :)

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: I hate it when........ (11/8/2009 4:34:41 PM)

I don't know if you've noticed Sunny, but sometimes...just occasionally, some really great threads come out of those threads. Not always but sometimes....in spite of, not because of the OP

Sunshine...  I would love to give you a well thought out response but frankly I have stopped reading any of his threads...Not because they are able to pusd any buttons of mine but in the one I did read.... I witnessed a couple of people attempt to try and make a serious discussion out of it...  and it seems that people are unable to walk away from him.. It seems as if He is the cuurent "target" for lack of better words.

I also hate that the easiest way to start a fight seems to be the words " I hope this doesn't offend"  Even if it shouldn't this seems to always find people online to get offended

I disagree.  I think that in real life interactions, people saying "I'm not trying to offend" usually are...  and they think this is some sort of way to cushion the blow.  (Sorta like, "Interesting outfit.  Did you actually pay for that, or was it given to you?")  Yeah...  those "no offense" things should best be left unsaid.

girlygurl -> RE: I hate it when........ (11/8/2009 4:51:35 PM)

I'm with the ignore crowd.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: I hate it when........ (11/8/2009 5:03:25 PM)

...and I disagree with you Red....probably the first time ever lol.  There have been times when something really needed to be said and there was no way to get around being blunt.  Saying that was my way of letting them know I meant it in a way truly not meant to offend....but it needed to be said.

When that happens in my household, the phrasing used is, "I say this not to be mean or hurtful, I say this because it is true. . . "

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: I hate it when........ (11/8/2009 5:39:40 PM)

I hate it when there are things I want, and need, and just cant get my hands on.
I hate being on the edge of need and it feels like it overtakes me and is all I can think about...
I hate it when I feel like I dont make sense lol!

kyttyn honey, either find and read a book called "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne, or go to YouTube and find and watch the documentary by the same name, it's there in segments for free. It will change your life, I promise (same goes for the rest of you).

sunshinemiss -> RE: I hate it when........ (11/8/2009 5:56:24 PM)

Hey there folks,
Thanks for the responses.  I agree zeph, there are at times good discussions that come out of the stoopid threads, but the nonsense he is spewing makes it hard to find the honest to goodness posts worth reading.

Have a good night folks.
