Status: offline 		You're right; the safety of your child is paramount and it is both your right and your responsibility to do whatever it takes.

However, you may not realize that oftentimes cats that have been declawed will resort to using their teeth, especially when roughly handled. A cat's saliva has an enzyme that most people are allergic to; this can cause a fever and various other symptoms that I have, unfortunately, forgotten. I used to work in a vet's office but that was like 10 years ago so I am digging way back for this information.

Not to mention, cat bites freakin HURT.

I am not telling you not to get cats declawed but it might do some good to take the time to teach the UM how to treat a cat so there won't be the risk of bites or scratches, claws or no claws. I don't know any vets who are willing to remove a cat's teeth ...

Status: offline 		I know what you mean.  Pumpkin is good spirited and the um is as well.  I don't think there will be rough-housing as much as accidents.  Ideally, I wouldn't ask a cat to be declawed.  We just don't live under ideal circumstances.

Some may find it cruel but it allowed us to keep our precious animals without putting him at risk. I know it was painful for the cats, but  they have a terrific life here...happy, healthy and loved.

ETA...and they are strictly indoor furbabies. I would never, ever consider having a cat that goes outdoors declawed...and neither would Rain and Lumus. Punkie stays in...and runs the show.

Status: offline 		I hate it when I decided to be smart and wax my armpits on my own.  Everything went well enough until the wax got super cold.  I couldnt rip the damn thing off!  So, I asked the neighbor to borrow their blowdryer.  Stupid moron that he is, he blow dries the strip, and then rips it off without asking if it was ok to.  I ended up with an armpit fulla wax, and 3 missing hairs.  Yay me. Today, its still sore, tender, but all the wax is gone!

Just a quick note, declawing does often lead to certain behavioral problems in cats very often (not always, but usually), such as no longer using the litter box, biting, and cleanliness issues (they have glands in their claws that secrete an antiseptic that they utilize while bathing). 

One option is the claw dips.  Essentially the vet or you just dip their claws into this solution, which dries into soft balls, covering the sharp tips of the claws.

Ultimately, it is up to you, of course, but I would reccommend talking with the vet about other options as well before declawing them.
