i love it when i finally get my new (very old) pantry. it's in bad shape, needs some tlc. can't wait to get to the hardware shop tomorrow. anyone know anything about old wood? i can't decide if it just needs to be oiled (linseed oil??) or stained. and can i stain after i've oiled if needs be??

the wood's very dry.

ooo....boy would that look good in my kitchen!!

I would oil the wood, but that is just my own personal style. I figure if it made it all this time without a coat of varnish I am not going to put one on.

not varnish, but it's got some discolouration through the old stain. it's probably been out in the owners shed for a LONG time. i'm just worried if i use oil on it, then decide it's not going to lift the discolouration (probably sun bleaching), then the stain won't "stick"

I hate it when you set in a deer blind all day  in the middle of nowhere and just see does and spike horn bucks. Then a guy from your work who does not hunt or even own a gun hits an 18 point buck in the middle of the day and in heavy traffic a mile from your work.

No only put a little ding in his door. The deer apperently landed the wrong way and broke its neck. You don't realise how many deer are in the area until you see all of the road kill. The state won't pick it up. If it isnt scattered all over the road from the trucks it is usualy picked up fast by hunters going by.

I love that Linea did well in her interview & will be getting a new job very soon (I know you will!).

I love that Imp has an interview & will knock their socks off!

I love that my honey bought new toys and I will get to use them (and/or have them used on me) tonight!

I love that I was able to get a little bit of sleep last night so I won't be completely exhausted when I get to PA.

I love that it is Veteran's Day and someone actually remembered I am a veteran and wished me a happy Veteran's Day.

I love so much today that I could go on and on! So I will stop here.

Ok so heres what ya do..

Sand, oil.. leave it for a bit.. then stain, and wax.

Home Depo has wonderful folks andd little flyers to take you through the process.

Who used to go to gargae sales and find stuff to refurbish with her mum.

~ make sure you use gloves and a mask.. esp if it has been painted over. ( if painted over strip it first)

I looooooove wood furniture.

We have these tinkerbelle anorexic little freaking deers down here. ( All related or bred with the key deer ~ not much larger then a large dog damn it)

I dont have the heart to hunt them... I want to feed them twinkie or sumthin'.

Hey Ray, if you're after tender meat then use your doe permit. The trophy head looks good on the wall but is tough as can be.

I meat hunt only. Doe , buck which ever steps in front of me first gets it. The way the liscense system works here you can get does as long as the doe permits last. I will probably take 3.  Don't feel sorry for the deer. The property I hunt on has over 200 deer on it and only 3 of us hunt it.

I would do just about 'anything' for some venison. Yup yup.
Its strange not hearing gunshots and seeing blaze orange all over the place.
