If man made it, don't eat it.
Organic and raw is my goal by the summer.

If I could give up meat without wanting to murderize people, I would be right there with you.  I crave the occasional roast or steak.

LT:
Grass fed organic beef is still available....it is just a bit more costly due to not being subsidized by the taxpayers like the feed lot variety is.

what people buy in stores is mindboggling.

the taste buds come back.  one does then crave real food.

ive gotten better at this.  i would have not been interested if i thought the foods did not effect me too much.  but when i started to look and feel like a blob- i got serious about eating rationally.  i eat all day long-- but with vegas -fruit you can.  graze.   no so with processed foods.

i must know 3 ppl addicted to soda pop.   they cant see the end of the tunnel.  when one cuts it out- --the stuff is un-appealing.
so i been serious about 3 years.  ppl dont want to wait 3 yrs.  even tho it takes many years to get out of wack.

so it isnt worth a lecture.   it goes out the other ear- and no one wants to wait 3 years.  -seems diabetes and other health issues are most important.  just last night a buddy complaining...i said. "you sold your body to the Coke company"   which was freindlier then what I wanted to say.  Oh we figured 600 cals a day.  well  that is much of a 2000 cal diet.

people that think the need soda- even of diet type are-- wayward.   tho it is their perogative.   tho it does make one wonder whos free will it actually is.

High fructose corn syrup: here's my pet peeve. That junk is everywhere! They even put in bread, for crying out loud!

In Europe, sodas are sweetened with sugar, but here in the US, they use corn syrup, which is much more fattening. And cheaper, obviously... Everything's gotta be cheap... Morality of the story: don't drink sodas. It works as an occasional treat (god knows I LOVE Coca Cola, the original formula).

It's taking me a while to get accustomed to all this... thankfully, I enjoy cooking. Though I'm not very good at it :-) .

Talk about conflict of interest....

Hawaii has a large sugar industry that has been struggling. Wouldnt a ban on artificial sweetners help that industry?

CD:
Perhaps you might tell us why the sugar industry is struggling in Hawaii...could it be perhaps because the U.S. is the second largest sugar importer in the world?
Why is it that we import sugar and don't grow our own?
I understand that they are gearing up for the ethanol "who haa"

Yes kittin, I enjoy cooking and baking also. Makes curbing those cravings alot healthier. No margarine, only butter and olive oil. Sugar, real honest to gawd sugar. Mixtures of whole grains instead of processed white flour and rice. Little changes that can make a huge difference.

I'm sure your cakes are wonderful; baking is a truly nurturing thing to do. Especially if you use real ingredients [8D] .

What would people with diabetes do if you were to ban aspartame? Ban that and you might as well ban Splenda b/c it's not much better. And Sorbitol has a nice little laxative effect if you eat too much of it.

The same thing they did before. Go without, orrrr, novel concept I know, moderation!

I am against all artificial sweetners. Not just this one.

dollparts85 -> RE: Hawaii Senator -ban aspartane (3/18/2008 8:55:47 AM)

hehe I am as well...it's not for me. I don't use artifical sweeteners. But if other people want to risk their health, then I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to.

Any of the sugar alcohols have a laxative effect if you eat too much of it...  Any sugars that end in "ol"  Which is why they have the disclaimer in tiny little letters, "excess consumption may have a laxative effect"

i love my diet pepsi...and i am never giving it up... what else am i going to drink???

BEER??? LIQUOR???  hell no....total waste of $$$$$$  and you have no control over yourself when your drunk.... does diet pepsi do that? ever hear of a driver being pulled over for diet pepsi?

philosophy -> RE: Hawaii Senator -ban aspartane (3/18/2008 8:56:27 AM)

...as someone has mentioned before, why eat something that can only be created in a laboratory? As for the idea that diabetics need aspartame, since when was having a sweetened coffee a human right?

dollparts85 -> RE: Hawaii Senator -ban aspartane (3/18/2008 8:57:46 AM)

Diet soda causes metabolic syndrome and weight gain. More so than regular soda.

As I said earlier, I don't mind one bit if someone wants to risk their health. Expecting me to pay for their risks is another kettle of fish. You can legalize heroin for all I care. But if you use it, you had better be prepared to accept ALL of the responsibilities that entails. All of them.

dollparts85 -> RE: Hawaii Senator -ban aspartane (3/18/2008 9:00:26 AM)

hehe only thing I drink is water...and milk once in a while...

kittinSol -> RE: Hawaii Senator -ban aspartane (3/18/2008 9:01:19 AM)

Organic I hope. Regular milk is full of pus and hormones.
