see, normally i like articles like that, but...there is this little part of me that was worried i'd be on there for one reason or another and it bothered me. so that kind of makes me wonder.

still... i've done that myself and laughed at other people's profiles and some of the comments were kind of funny. i think that the captions could have been wittier though. if there's a chance i'm going to be mocked, i want to at least be secure that i'm being mocked by someone better than THAT. too many of the captions went straight for the fat chick joke when they could have made another one that might have been better if they spent more than a minute and a half on it, for example.

Don't get me wrong, it'd be a really nice world if people would stop being dicks to each other, but if you go through your life constantly trying to avoid offending anyone at all, you're going to end up being silent. People are offended by different things. There is no pleasing everyone.

And then comes the greater conundrum of -- who do we choose to please, and what gives us the right to cast the others aside?

On one hand, I'm rather disappointed that SA couldn't come up with something better. I'm sure my five year old could've come up with better captions.

On the other hand, I wasn't too fond of seeing CM members being poked at for fun. With the internet being the way it is, it's almost expected nowadays, and though I haven't been a member for long I actually felt a touch defensive when I saw it.

Could've been worse I suppose. Now I'm just waiting to see what the newbies have to say when they contact my pet after joining thinking they have some easy marks for ridicule.

Yes, I did find it funny. I liked the running gag about being from Auckland. Then again, if it were Me, I'd be happy to be from anywhere that seemed to have more than it's share of pervy folks.

I found the site reminded me a great deal of middle school bullies. Make fun of the fat girls and make fun of anyone who looks different. There isn't anything to respect there. However, it is a wonderful reminder as to why we should not put our pictures back up.

Yes, I laughed at this, and I'm ashamed of it. Because as soon as I was finished snickering, I frantically checked to make sure my profile wasn't up there. I certainly wouldn't want it to be taken out of context, and that makes it lose all comedic value. Some of the people they used as examples could be truly hurt by what they posted. There's so much unkindness in the world. Do we really need more, even if it is in the name of humor? I would have found it hilarious if they poked fun just at the site or all of us in general, but it's not so funny as it's aimed at specific people. They should let people draw their own conclusions and not make up their minds for them. Everyone has a different standard of beauty and intelligence. No one's is better than another's.

And why is it that the larger, older women are targeted for various things, but the one young, standardly attractive girl they exhibited couldn't possibly have put up that profile on her own (some pervy guy had to do it) according to their rhetoric?

Yeah, I'm gonna go with the side of evil on this one, and agree that I think it's pretty funny. Something Awful could have just pulled out the people with weird fetishes and made fun of them for being kinky. They didn't, they chose people with unflattering pictures or with ridiculous profiles.

Sure, it's mean, and I would be mortified if I saw my picture up there. However, that's the risk all of us run by putting information online. If you post your picture on the interwebs, you need to expect that everybody will see it, your gramma, your pastor, your garbage collector, etc. They're not invading privacy if you post on the public domain.

My favorite was the dom who seriously did look like he got kicked in the balls. It was an exceedingly silly picture.

Who gets to decide if something is unflattering? Who gets to decide if something is attractive?

It's cruel to the point of reverting back to insecure middle school kids who pick on the different child just so they can feel better about themselves. These photos weren't unflattering, I've seen more unflattering outfits on CM. They were the pictures of the fat girls and a couple of doms.

it made me sad, because some of the profiles were just regular people...they shouldn't be ridiculed for who and what they are.
but, it also made me laugh at some of the riduculous ones too, which I would have laughed at anyway.
it's a fine line, I guess.
