Yahoo has gone from bad to terrible in the last couple years.  We no longer have anything by Yahoo on our system, especially their viral toolbar, shoddy groups, or awkward and insecure mail system.  Hotmail and Gmail for anonymous email, and MSN for chatting.

I only have Yahoo Messenger because most of my contacts there are on it. However gradually they are getting Skype which works out better for us so soon I'll be getting rid of Yahoo too. Even the few lists on yahoo I am a member of are looking at rebuilding on proboards or similar which has the advantage of multiple boards. MSN has been dismissed from my computer and I find that using Firefox as my browser is better. .Emails I use exclusively MYway and Gmail  (Gmain for 4 of the 5 email addies I us)

What's funny is that my profile photo on Yahoo is one of the photos on my profile here and none of them are what I'd consider inappropriate.  I only have my profile set to adult so that I don't get bothered by horny teenagers looking to fulfill a "Mrs. Robinson" fantasy.

Iron Bear, Skype is awesome!  I was turned onto it a few years ago and it's so much better than Yahoo messenger.  I'm glad it's finally starting to catch on here in the states.  I need to tell more of my friends to get on there.  Thanks for mentioning that!  [:)]

IronBear -> RE: Yahoo Groups!! (3/28/2008 8:14:04 AM)

No probs kitty, mine is used for business too so I get incomming landline calls to the dedicated number as well as skype to go and have my skype-in number redirected to my mobile (cell) when i am away from my office. . The great aspect I find is the lack of stuff ups compared with YM and especially if I want to use a web cam for conferencing or just voice,,

ELUSIVE1 -> RE: Yahoo Groups!! (3/28/2008 8:49:32 AM)

reading the yahoo t.o.s. it seems they only have problems with adult images, not the groups themselves...I belong to several yahoo groups, some are private invite only groups...about two years ago anyone that wanted to stay in the groups had to make sure their yahoo profile reflected their legal age or the person and /or the group would be deleted...as for posting here in forums, that is fine for public groups, but the private ones would not want everyone too know what is going on or where

Leatherist -> RE: Yahoo Groups!! (3/28/2008 8:52:14 AM)

The great thing about yahoo group options is that you can set them up adult listed-private and not indexed. That way you can have places to share with friends you meet (in places like this) And not have to worry about minors, wankers or creepy people trying to get in.

There is a Problem going on at Yahoo. (I heard there were problems at Yahoo....I thought it was over...but clearly I was wrong).

If U haven't seen they are going to Kill the ADULT profile (NO FUCKING WAY!!!!!), Which is a  means of Sceening the Members tring to join the BDSM Group's (SCEENING/TRING?), to name one type of adult group (Uhmmmm...you didn't actually name a group). I have heard that they are going to Kill all the Adult Groups with the new alliance with google (MURDERERS!!!!). Most groups Use this as a means to notify Members of Munchs, Partys, and Events in the life style (Do they now? Care to elaborate on exactly which groups, Munches, Party's and Events you're describing?). I would think that someplaces Like this site might enjoy the extra traffic if they could get the message Boards to move to a Kink friendly site (Well...just a hint here...you're going to have to write in some form of known grammar such that anyone with a 4th grade education can follow your train of thought. My guess is...this particular train is going off the fucking cliff). But if U know of someplace else that is free let me know! I'd be happy to M-Mike...if I could just fucking figure out exactly what the fuck you were trying to say.

Thanks for this information.

Is this what the OP was referring to?

I mean, this is about content in individual profiles, not about yahoogroups themselves -- that would be a damned lot of groups they'd shut down. As a person how has a "fansite" on yahoo I haven't been informed of any problems or potential changes at all.

URFarmPet -> RE: Yahoo Groups!! (3/30/2008 5:47:27 AM)

Found this message at another site, as did the person who posted it there but appears to have some food for thought:

It doesn't appear to be a hoax and with yahoo you never really know
what they are thinking. I found this in another group that I am a
member and if you are concerned about it being a hoax follow these
instructions:

Before jumping to changing your profile (which involves inserting
your PASSWORD!!!) I would suggest that you check to see where you are
directed if you click on the link shown in the email. Pass your
pointer over the link for your profile
(http://profiles. yahoo.com/ ******** ) and look at the address that
appears at the bottom of your Windows screen. You will see that you
are being redirected to a very strange site with a bunch of
characters behind the name. NOT your typical Yahoo site. This is
most likely a phishing email, a scam used a lot on eBay to capture
your password (they already have your screenname).

Use caution here folks. If you want to make the change, go to your
pfofile and change it by going directly or through YahooMessenger,
NOT through the link in that email.

thetammyjo,
it was the meat and potatoes of an e-mail that came to this slave's inbox at yahoo, from yahoo.

not sure how this affects the groups, as this slave hasn't received any info from them about the groups, just the profile's that are marked "adult".

the profile that this slave had marked in such a way had a very vanilla pic(WITH clothing![:)]), so regardless of the actual content of the profile, if you had marked it "adult", the picture will be removed.

it doesn't say that the profile will be deleted...just the pic.

Actually, it's not just the groups, but Adult Profiles that are impacted as well.  I received the email below from Yahoo this morning (I removed my ID information as it's not relevant):

We're making some changes that will affect one of your Yahoo!
profiles. After April 9, 2008, mature content will not be
permitted within Yahoo! Profiles.

In accordance with this new policy, users will no longer be able to
designate an "adult profile," and mature content will be removed.

The profile for the Yahoo! ID XXXXXXXXX is marked "adult."
The picture associated with this profile will be removed and
deleted on April 9, 2008.

We encourage you to upload a new profile photo on that date that
complies with the Yahoo! Terms of Service and Community
Guidelines. Please take a moment to review our Terms of Service

Although my profile was marked adult, my picture was actually g rated.  I have removed the adult tag, and it will not let me change the pic as I guess  it is going to be autoremoved on April 9.  That must be their way of making sure that the photos are changed out. Wonder how many are not marked mature that actually are?  Makes one love the fact there are real humans here, unlike there in the admin.

I'm not really sure what you're saying.. could you post a link to where you got this information?

Yahoo sent out emails to all who have an adult profile Wednesday or so... They sent me one to an id they deleted almost 2 years ago... go figure...

i think what he is saying is that since Yahoo is going to get rid of all of the adult groups that if anyone knows of another place that is similar to Yahoo, meaning with group possibilities and mailing lists etc that they may stand to gain some traffic if this happens.....Seems like he also wants to know if anyone knows of anything like it.

And although the forums here are great and free they aren't groups like yahoo and they don't have that capability to be that.

MySpace does have groups, but they usually seem to be mostly lame, and you have to have a MySpace account (which some ppl think is juvenille so they don't have them)....They aren't the perfect solution, and you can't post xxx pics or adult links in them, but they are one option.

Google has adult oriented groups... did I hear that yahoo is joing with googles?  There goes the google groups..

I own a yahoo bdsm group. I have not been informed of any charges or fees or cancellations to any of the adult groups or profiles.

That will probably come a month or two down the road... They got rid of all the Escort groups a few months back..

Not really.  Extra traffic leads to more roads, higher taxes, travel studies, new traffic patterns, changes to the infrastructure...  a real pain in the ass.

BoiJen -> RE: Yahoo Groups!! (3/30/2008 6:16:20 PM)

Yahoo is NOT deleting or canceling ANY adult yahoo groups. They're removing the "adult" section of profiles. That's all. It goes into effect on April 9th. They sent out an email to their memebers so that the members could go save their photos if they needed to.

The idea about the yahoo groups came out as a scare because some people are fuckin paranoid and think they have a right or say in how a company manages itself...If you want something else...go buy stock.

Clarification about the Yahoo! Profiles photo announcement
March 27, 2008 at 5:04 pm · Filed under General

Some of you may have received or heard about an important notice sent to users regarding their Yahoo! Profile photo. This announcement seems to be generating some confusion that I hope to clear up.
The notice, a copy of which I have included below, was only sent to users who have a profile marked as adult at http://profiles.yahoo.com/YID.
Two things to make clear:

  • Just the photos on adult profiles will be deleted on April 9th, not the profile itself or a person’s Yahoo! ID
  • Adult groups themselves, including their photos, will NOT be affected in any way.

In short, even if you completely ignore the notice, the worst that will happen is that your profile photo will disappear on April 9th.
Notice that was sent out
Email title: An important notice about your Yahoo! Profiles photo
We’re making some changes that will affect one of your Yahoo! profiles. After April 9, 2008, mature content will not be permitted within Yahoo! Profiles.
In accordance with this new policy, users will no longer be able to designate an “adult profile,” and mature content will be removed.
The profile (http://profiles.yahoo.com/YID) for the Yahoo! ID YID is marked “adult.” The picture associated with this profile will be removed and deleted on April 9, 2008.
We encourage you to upload a new profile photo on that date that complies with the Yahoo! Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.

For additional information or to learn how to get a copy of your photo before April 9, 2008, please visit our help pages.

puddles thinks this is complete nonsense. "Google alliance"? Yahoo groups are happily going as yahoo groups. Use what one finds useful, and helpful.
