arnica gel/cream is great for bruising ... it helps break down the blood and decrease the time it takes for the body to heal the bruise ...

you will find it at most health shops or even some supermarkets  and its relatively inexpensive

If you speak to a naturapath they may  be able to recommend something more effective, such as homeopathic arnica drops

Some drugs, such as asprin, also  make brusing more likely. So speaking to your doctors can also help

hope you find a good solution

My heart goes out to you MistressOfGa.

While I do not have such a condition, I do bruise extremely easily.  (That's the true reason I do not EVER allow a partner to bite me.)  I have suffered the strange looks my entire life.  As a youth in school gym classes, I always had huge bruises all the way up my shins.  These were always 'self inflicted' as I did a lot of gardening and helped on the family farms.  Back in the mid 70's, when asked about the constant bruises, I quipped "My parents beat me."  People went "Ooooh..." then looked away but did nothing and said no more.

It is a sign of the times that people are concerned.  Enjoy that concern and know that they simply wish to help you.  Looking back at my own experience, it is sad to know that children who really WERE abused most likely found no sympathy at all.  It was just an accepted way of life.

MoGa...
Welcome back, and I hope you're feeling better.  Your presence was missed.

I would suggest asking for an ice pack when they do procedures.  I work a job where bruises occur often (eliminating the need to explain "other" bruises, except to the people I work with, who know the difference.)  The number one thing they preach is to put ice on the bruises before they get worse.  When I dropped a can of shaving cream on my forearm, it was a huge lump, but the lump was gone 5 minutes after ice was applied, and the most the bruise was a little yellow and greenish, skipping the whole ugly black-n-blue phase.  It might help eliminate some of the color and the pain, and in my experience, has actually helped to eliminate bruises all together.

Hope this helps.

Welcome back Ma`am.... Would it be an idea to explain the problem with bruising before you visit hospital. This way those concerned would know in advance ?

I'd agree that friends and family and close associates (such as other students you are working on projects with or teachers you working closely with especially your advisor) should be told that this is happening to you. Not only will help with the questions but if you get a doctor's note explaining things then if your health should interfere with school work they'll know the next notes you bring in are real.

Sadly because a few student lie, all students now much have documentation of any reason they are absent from class or need extra time to do work.

People who casually ask you can probably be silenced with just an icy look from you and silence.

As a nurse I will say that if you have a chronic condition that requires alot of blood draws and meds than a more permanent access could be considered. A porta cath sits underneath the skin in the upper right or left part of the chest. It is a central access and can be used for blood draws and meds. It can last for a year or more. If you are not having a chronic condition then just tell people you have had some medical issues and require alot of lines being started or blood drawn. Ask you doc about it if interested. Good luck.

Brightest Blessings

While the ice /heat packs are good if you can do it right away I am assuming you can not because you are in the hospital. Keep a cream that has vitamin K or C in it. Not only will this help your bruises fade, but the vitamins will build up your skin or toughen ( not dry and tough, just not so delicate) it so that bruising will eventually not occur.

Blessed Be

My Dear Friend, sadly it isn't just your rolling veins but I am sure the meds you are on that weaken the vein walls and make you a free bleeder of sorts--I strongly recommend a medic alert bracelet---they they DO check, list all your meds and "rolling veins, free bleeder"-- it will slow them down and make them at least look---however, it will not stop it completely--

and I am so perplexed that you  have forgotten your roots----why, a Southern Belle like yourself should remember that even the slightest breeze damages our translucent alabaster skin-  <said with the perfect Savannah accent>---smiles.

lol M, I would never forget my southern "roots", as you and pup are still there <s> A medic alert is a great idea, as well as the many ideas that others have spoke of. I can't possibly answer each one, but know that all have been read and I have taken notes :)

As far as icy stares........I have been known to have the most terrifying stare that some have ever seen. It could be because of my native American heritage, but mostly because I know how to bring my sub (and most any other free sub) to their knees with one look <s> But, thetammyjo, not all in my school will ever see my look or anyone's look for that matter. I attend the Arizona School for the Blind and Visionally Impaired.

I know exactly what you mean. Been there, done that.

MzMinx, I am on a daily dose of aspirin now. Prolly accounts for some of the bruising.

I love the make up tips! I love them simply because I don't wear a lot of make up, but when in play or scenes, I love to wear the extra black <s> Makes for a more dramatic effect, I think.

Thank you all for answering, I can't believe so many responded! :)

MoGa
