Gravity happens to the best of us... it is one of those undenyable features of nature. Goodness knows I realize it every time I put on a bra. I remember when my boobs used to hold up my bra.. not the other way around. But then I do not have 4 hours a day to devote to the gym each and every day with a family to take care of... and my job is much different.

So do you guys ever get squicked when you see HWP on a profile?

beauty has nothing to do with this. Some people may think that a 400 pound women is "beautiful" but that does not make it healthy.

Status: offline 		BMI is definitely BS.  And the funny thing is, I remenber when it first gained real popularity as an alternative to the old height and weight charts.  At that time everyone was saying how out of date and unreliable those old charts were.  but you know, at least those old charts had different weights for thin, medium, and heavy builds, which makes them more accurate than BMI's.  But the problem with BMI's is that they pay no attention to your body composition.  Are you heavy boned?  Are you muscular?  These things are not taken into account by BMI.  My BMI is 25.6, which makes me borderline obese. 

There is no denying that there is an obesity epidemic in America, and that being overweight can lead to many health risks, but putting something out there that oversimplifies an issue, and misleads or misinforms the public is not helpful.  If you really want to know how healthy you are, get a physical.  Get a full lipid profile, get your blood sugar checked, check your blood pressure.  You may be carrying a few extra pounds and still be perfectly healthy.

That said,  losing  that extra  bodyfat in a sensible and safe program will most likely make you healthier.  And if you are the type that needs some kind of measurement tool to judge yourself, you are better off getting your bodyfat tested.  Weighing in water is the most accurate way to do this, but there is also the caliper method(accurate when done correctly), and electrical impedence devices(not that accurate, but useful as a tool for measuring progress).

Status: offline 		I'm 5'1 and 283 lbs and my blood pressure runs around 90/60, my cholesterol was 177 last they checked and my blood sugar was 91. Does that mean I'm healthy? LOL

Status: offline 		What really blows my mind about BMI is that it is used by DOCTORS.  These are medical professionals, and their using such a flawed tool only serves to propogate its use.
