The case law in most states holds that, absent a relationship such as parent-child, no one has a duty to rescue. You can stand idly by while someone dies but for your assistance, and no state that i am aware of can prosecute you for any criminal act/ommision.

In Croatia, if you drive and witness an accident and dont stop - you can be accused as an accomplice in actual accident. You must stop and help and call the police and ambulance as soon as possible. Its the law.
In Germany too. If you notice someone being sick you at least have to stay by their side and call the ambulance.
In my opinion acting like you never saw things like that is something most inhuman possible. I have hard time believing that you actually have such law. Monstrous!

hmmm...yes...AEDs are just the thing. I have one for service use, but might get yelled at if I used it at home. On the other hand, if 911 gets called, well....I'd be the one responding.

I hear the best place to have a heart attack is in a casino in Vegas. They reportedly have AEDs stashed all over the place. Kinda like fire extinguishers. Kinda.

Bob

Vegas, baby !!!!

You heard correctly, Bob. Vegas is the best place to have a heart attack and have a successful resuscitation. Every pit, dining area, night spot, etc has an AED, by law. Vegas also has the most surveillance cams inside and out, so you have a greater chance of being treated quickly and being seen within seconds of collapse. I found that interesting at my last ACLS class.

And following along the subject of AEDS, that Bob and John Warren have mentioned. One or two man CPR has a survival rate of less than 7 %, BUT when you have an AED that rate increases to about 55%. < i may be a tad off on my AED numbers, and anyone with more recent data can freely correct me>
