I was just wondering why it is, that so many in the BDSM scene are attracted to portentous, witless, politically dodgy characters like Boyd Rice and Marilyn Manson? I put this down to the Goth-Fetish interface! Might i suggest they seek out some Zappa or The Cramps by way of a change?

I am just curious what is the point of this statement other than to stir up crap or is it to make yourself feel important or is it simply the need to judge others?

Just a little education, Goth is an alternative lifestyle much like the one you claim so do me a favor and dont insult something you seem so naive about.

I believe your response speaks volumes! I am not talking about the Goth world per se, i guess what really riles, is that people like Boyd and Marilyn have been vocal and indeed vociferous advocates of offensive philosophies such as Social Darwinism. More pertinently though, Marilyn could never be mistaken for Mr Chuckle Trousers! Social Darwinism, as many of you will know, is the belief that Might is Right and war an inevitability, which given the current world climate, seems somewhat de trop! Thank you for taking the time to reply however, and by the way, there are various examples of what you might deem Goth that i admire enormously!

Just because I may like Manson, doesn't make me a goth. Just because Mansons political views (alleged) may not sit well with you, or me (not that it does or it doesnt - as I actually know the Man has a sense of humour), doesn't mean He is talentless.

Politcal, religious or Lifestyle preferences does not determine whether someone has ability or talent. And one mans talent is another mans poor taste - personal choice and thoughts are one thing - but attacks on people is naive and slanderous and come from fear.

LOL it's actually something that I've considered before, starting a post with the subject "All Discussions on Collars" "All Discussions on sub/slave" "All discussions on bad emails" "All Discussions on Orgasms" etc.

Figured it's not necessary yet and haven't had the motivation for it.

Actually, despite my post, and regardless of my socialist convictions, i have to own up to an enduring fascination with repellent figures like Boyd Rice and Whitehouse - staring into the abyss and all that?

I suppose that it depends on personal choice more than anything else.

Shall I continue? *grins*

I would bet that the musical tastes in this community are as varied as they are in the world -- with a hat tipped to those who understand that music sets a mood...and who are able to use music to do just that.

I generally listen to music that has an appealing beat, a message that strikes a chord or vocals and instrumentation that are pleasing to me. Basically I listen to be entertained. I really could care less which way they politically swing. If I want to hear about politics I will tune in and listen to a politician. I know the current trend today is for every performer to have a cause or a soapbox but I don't want anything from them other than sheer entertainment.

I could probably play with just about any kind of music but I also enjoy playing without music at all. I like hearing all the sounds of play itself. Any sound coming from my partner or a toy hitting flesh are highly erotic to me.

Personally, I listen mostly to country (both old and new.) I also like oldies rock (as in 1950s and 60's). I like some alternative as well (maybe 1/3 of the alternative music out there on the radio is stuff I like.)

I never liked "goth" music, although I love the associated fashion.

I have a varied taste in music What I don't likeis RAP, Hip Hop, Country and Western, and Marilyn Manson and other of his genre. I love Classical, New Age, Rock and Roll, Progressive Rock, Jazz, and Oldies from the 60's 70's and 80's. I even like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and others of that genre. When sceneing at home and I am playing more with the mind I love to use Nigel Shaw.

I grew up on the polka. It's one of the benifits of being of eastern european descent and growning up in cleveland.

Personally I'll take good old Country & Western. It speaks from America like nothing else I know. Marty Robbins, Conway Twitty and of course Reba.

For Impact play I like anything that has a really good beat to it... something I can cane or flog to. For sensual play like bondage or waxing I like softer music, Evanesence and the like.

What I listen to personally runs the gamut from Bach to ZZ Top, to include Big Band, Jazz, Rock, Acid, Prog, Space, R&B, Motown, Funk, New Age, Alternative... I have... eclectic taste in music.

And I'm sorry, but in my opinion, Marilyn Manson doesn't hold a candle to Alice Cooper, the original "shock rock jock". *grin*

I have to agree with this. While Manson does have some interesting music, Cooper is still king of the genre.

For myself, I like dark, heavy, thumping metal or techno for heavy pain scenes. The Gothic/horror sound of Midnight Syndicate goes well for more "intimate" play. And just for listening? Give me anything but rap or hiphop, and I'm happy. Mostly, I listen to country these days, but Aerosmith, Megadeth, Metallica, G&R, AC/DC and Floyd still top my personal favorites list.
