Just a thought that I dont recall being mentioned.

Are there medications you take on a regular basis? Perhaps something you are taking could affect this.
I know certain medications I take effect the taste.

if youre on depo you have a dr, why not ask him/her or call the drug store?

SavageFaerie -> RE: Can the depo pervera shot every 3 months change your personal vaginal scent? (8/25/2008 7:43:38 PM)

Just to clarify, I was offering another reason that perhaps it could be something the OP hadnt considered.

Not me specifically. LOL I have about all the b/c I need. Cut tubes and menopause.

I keep thinking of an old saturday night live skit when I read this thread. It was a parody of the old "charlie" commercial-about a perfume that combined with a woman's body chemistry to create a unique scent.

"On her it smells like fresh roses from a spring garden. Oh her it smells like French kitty litter. On her it smells like dead otters in the drainpipe."

i happen to agree with your partners line of thinking; fluctuation in hormone levels will change a persons natural scent...

at least now you have some idea of what to look forward to when menopause stares you in the face[:'(]

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Can the depo pervera shot every 3 months change your personal vaginal scent? (9/1/2008 9:44:21 PM)

Hopefully by that time I'll have a mature and understanding partner, who doesn't make things a woman can't help or control an issue lol. And if not he can sit at home while I go have fun and find myself a mature and understanding partner to replace him lol.

Ok, prepare for a long, long post from a condomfairy (a volunteer sex educator).

1) Why does your partner believe it's the depo provera's fault?  Was he ever with you before you started that form of birth control?  And did he like the scent then?  Or was it at least more bearable?

2) It's good that you've got yourself checked out.  I'm glad your taking matters into your own hands.

3) Diet is NOT proven to change women's taste/scent.  It can affect the taste of men's semen though, but only usually if they seriously binge on a certain food constantly.

4) I hate to suggest this, BUT your partner may just be making excuses or lying simply because he does not enjoy fingering & oral sex in general.

5) One scientific hypothesis to explain your situation, is that simply you are not genetically compatible with your partner.  Disliking your partner's scent (ie. the pheremone's they excrete) is usually a big hint that you will not be able to reproduce effeciently.  It does NOT mean that you are not emotionally compatible, just that nature is 'against' your coupling and potential offspring.

6) THE BIG POINT OF THIS POST:  Taking birth control/hormones of ANY sort does NOT change a woman's scent.  Birth control simply changes the AMOUNT of hormones that fluctuate through the body.  Therefore, the natural scent is NOT changed, however it may increase or decrease in intensity.

Feel free to poke me and ask me more questions if you wish.

I have been on Depo for almost 13 years and I love it!!! I only came off of it once to have another child. I have gain only 30lbs in 13 years. But it just depends on your body. My sister-in-law gain 65lbs in 3 months. And no bloating, no cramps and no bleeding.

panthersub -> RE: Can the depo pervera shot every 3 months change your personal vaginal scent? (9/23/2008 2:05:01 PM)

I had the same problem when I was on the depo shot, and like you, did go into the doctor to see what it could be. They kept telling me that it was a vaginal infection, but since I switched over to the Desogen birth control pill, I have not had any issues with any smell or anything like that "down there". When I did go into the doctor though, she told me that it could be because of the udnerwear I was wearing, that it was catching all the moisture and trapping it between the vagina and the underpants. So also you might trying switching the brand/type of underwear that you would normally wear.

VivaciousSub -> RE: Can the depo pervera shot every 3 months change your personal vaginal scent? (9/23/2008 8:45:02 PM)

I had a similar problem as well. Mine was due to the fact that Depo caused me to have my period for 3 months straight, ew. Sure, I wasn't going to get pregnant, but feeling as nasty as I did, I wasn't going to be having sex either!

Now I have an IUD in, haven't had my period in 3 years, and don't have to remember to take BC pills every day. Score!

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Can the depo pervera shot every 3 months change your personal vaginal scent? (9/24/2008 10:49:54 PM)

I love it too, the only downside for me is, my arm gets so painful and sore for a good day to 3 days after the injection, and sometimes the injection burns like a mother fucker. Specially if I am a few days off of the due date. I've never had problems with weight gain because of the depo. Now because of eating to much and to many wrong things and not exercising yeah, but depo? nope.

That very well could be, however I think, seeing that we have a total honesty policy we work very hard to stick to,*yes I know some people don't believe couples can have 100 percent honesty, that's beside the point though* that He really doesn't like my scent. And I've come to be ok with that. Fortunatly oral sex is not something I rreally want much or have much craving for.

I've been on dep long before we met. He thought it could of been a yeast infection or some other nasty baddie that affects vagina's and since the doctor repeatedly gives the all clear, every time I've gone, the one culprit left he wondered about was depo.  We had oral sex the very first time we met, over 3 years ago now, and he said it was wonderful and delicious, and then the next time and every time since then it was to bitter and musty for him and has been ever since.

I've been wise to the panties thing for litterally years, and wear nothing but 100 percent cotton and nothing else. I never wear tight pants either nor do I wear pantyhose. Tight pants are almost as bad as the wrong kind of panties. Since they are often so tight and close they cram up in there and keep moister right near the skin.

Depro-provera (and sometimes other hormonal birth control options) in addition to its normal adjustments to the body's hormones has been found to lower estrogen levels and lower estrogen levels are tied in many women during birth control (and sometimes pregnancy) use to a higher (more alkaline) pH balance within the vagina.  This can for many (as with other pH altering medications, douches, spermicides, and even semen) alter the smell, texture, and amount of vaginal discharge (all together or individually) and over time the numbers of vaginal flora which can create a cycle of pH imbalance.  Depo tends to also, specifically, increase the h2o2 producing flora to an abnormal level, hence altering smell and taste in some females.

Dude, you rock for posting this. I've always loved science/medicine. Thanks for letting us known the chemistry (possibly) behind the funk!
