Does anyone remember riding Bigweels down the biggest hill you could find. Sigh if only we had the vidio cam back then. We would have put Bam and the Jackass crew out of buisness!

I miss the days when you could lay a blanket out in the back yard and tan all day.

I miss the days when everything you ate didn't end up on the good for you/bad for you list list on a rotating basis each month, depending on which diet guru was hot that month.

I miss the days when children could drink milk, and infants weren't put on soy milk before they made it out of the hospital if they weren't breast fed.

I sure as hell miss the days when we could sit on our porches and talk to the neighbors as they passed and knew who they were and the names of all their kids. Even in NY and Brooklyn you knew your neighbors..Now, unless you live in a  small town, you are lucky to get a hand wave returned.

I miss the days when women/young adults had curves and were proud of them and weren't dieing (literally) to look like animated mummies.

I remember softdrink was only for birthdays and christmas as were chips, and lollies ... TV came on at 3:00 pm and closed down at about 10:00 pm.  The TV went off when we had dinner and we all sat at the table ...we talked, debated, laughed and told those really bad jokes we all send in here ... if you were out playing and needed to go to the loo, you'd knock on the back door of any house in the neighbourhood and if no one was home, you'd use it and go back to playing ... and you could actually swim in the creek, AND drink from it ... oh dear i sound so old ...

i so agree with this statement.. i think that america is the only country in the world that has stick super modles.. i think the rest of the world has banned them. now i could be wrong but i think ive heard that some where. i have curves.. and while im not ashamed of them.. i do wish i could use a few pounds.. ya know.

i think this was the best part -- knowing that, as we laid our poor tired heads down to go to sleep, tomorrow and all its fun, was only a dream or two and breakfast away.

smiling softly at the memories...

By the end of the double or triple header (depending on how long Mom made you go home for lunch) you were so dead tired that you went home, had dinner and passed out for the night. And the next morning... you did it ALL again.

I was born in 1980, but my parents were definitely not of the helicopter variety!

I remember:

Playing outside all day and into the night - kick-the-can, dodgeball, etc
Getting into fistfights with my male cousins
Clubbing my cousin over the head with a BB gun...after he shot me in the shins with it.
Climbing into a tree, rigging up a pulley system to drag up food, water and a book.
Falling OUT of the tree and having Mom tape me up.
Flashlight tag
Riding my bike anywhere I wanted.
Cringing whenever I heard my full name yelled outside.
Road rash! I still have the scars!

And to think, I made it through childhood not watching tv, reading everything I could get my hands on, being named "Queen of the Emergency Room" and nothing bad happened to me!

At this time of the year, this reminded me of Halloweens, where we roamed the streets with our friends, going door to door, having fun, and not worrying about anything except how much candy we got.  I hate that my children don't get to enjoy that .... I mean who really wants to trick or treat in a mall ....

Sure! I always liked Steve McQueen's driving in Bullit.

Sorry, that was terrible. I love drive-in movies, even with the tinny sound. Besides, if you staged it right, you weren't watching the damn movie....
