I hope that this can go in this section.  Anyway, here goes.

So, got my first tattoo and that's super awesome, but that's not the body mod I'm irritated with.

I'm irritated with my nipple piercings. I used to have them both done, but when I would get regular pain from my left as well as seeing it starting to be pushed out through the tip, I knew it was time for it to go. And now, for my right, I'm starting to really really dislike it. It's starting to get pain as well, and it's further down, but it looks like it's basically being constantly tugged and it's inflamed. I got these piercings in February for cryin' out loud and it feels like neither of them have healed!

What happened, when I first got my nipples pierced, the owner of the shop pierced my right, and his assistant pierced the left.  Owner went down really low, got through some of the areola, and his assistant pierced my left, and I could tell as soon as the needle went through that she screwed it up and made it too high.

Ugh, hate this so much. I talked to a piercer girl at a different shop and she said that I should let the left heal for three months and use vitamin e oil to soften the scar tissue so that she can repierce it. I'm thinking I may have to let that happen with my right one too.

I'm disappointed with it, really I am. I love these piercings so much but it's just not working and I don't understand why. I followed all the directions to keep it clean while it was healing, don't let anyone put their mouth on it, don't play with it with dirty hands, etc. etc. And yet it's still not working.

Anyone know anything about this? Give me some advice? Should I get them repierced or is it just not worth my time?

I know that for some people, the body rejects the metal and will push it out.  It's just the way it is.

Yeah, but this was surgical grade steal and I don't have any allergies to metal.  So I'm kinda confused and at a loss two piercings.

Ick, why would they let two different people do your piercings? That sucks. :(

It sounds like its being rejected, and there's nothing (That I know of) that will stop a rejecting piercing. Just go ahead and take it out, and get it redone later. It might have been the metal, or it may have just been an awkward placement.

I had two surface piercings on either side of my naval a few years ago. They started rejecting, even though I followed all of the instructions etc. They never did heal, and stayed nasty until I removed them. I still have scars there. >:(

I wouldn't know about piercing through scar tissue though. I suspect it would hurt a bit more, kind of like re piercing an ear after you've left your earring out too long. I've had my tongue re pierced a few times, but I think it's different, it heals quickly.

Ahh.  Yeah, I'm kind of iffy on the subject.  I mean, if they're rejecting then what could I do so that I could keep them when I get them redone?  I don't want them to reject, I want to be able to keep them!  lol  Switch to titanium or something maybe?

Ex had his done and it took nearly 7 months before it healed. In the meantime it was oozing and swollen half the time. And he was super diligent about cleaning it and being hygenic.

I thought it was hot at first until it took so long to heal. Wouldn't go near them for over a year. Maybe his was the exception but after that I am not diggin the nipple piercing thing.

It looks as though they have given you some advice.  Take them out, use the vit E like the piercer said and later have them redone.

Lynnx, i had a girl (at Claire's) try and pierce my ear on a scar i got as a kid, it never healed and it did hurt alot worse then my others.

I guess it depends on your body...?

I had mine done about a month and a half ago, and they are healing pretty well, no oozy grossness. Then again, I had a really good piercer, which I think makes a  lot of difference for something like this.

Also, get bars instead of rings next time. Apparently, they lessen the chance of migration.

*Edit* That sucks BB. I hate it when stuff won't heal. I was more talking about that crap where I've left my earring out for 2 or three days, and it's kind of half-assed healed over.  Usually, I end up flailing around in the bathroom trying to stick it through again. >.<

If I were going to have mine repierced I would do a vertical piercing this time instead of another horizontal.  Another piercing in the same way could push out the scar tissue and make an unsightly bump.  Eww.
I loved the look, but the seepage, the long healing time, and the refusal to stay was too much of a bother.  I had mine for 6 months before they were down to a cleaning twice a day.  And then after a year, I got an infection again.  I had them enlarged to the next size up which I was assured would do the trick and it would finally heal.  I went from the 14 gauge to the 12 at around 18 months.
They never stopped seeping which I found annoying.  People tell me that seeping is to be expected since our milk glands are there, but I never got used to it.
I finally gave up at my 2 yr mark.  I think it took 2 weeks to heal over.  My body really was trying to heal.
It has been 7 yrs since I removed them.  I still miss the look.

There's a thread on nipple piercings in Health & Safety. It might help you.

Lucky lol.  I kid.

Yes BB, I was being an impatient little bitch again lol, it's one of my flaws.  That and I'm just sort of freaking out about it because, while I got this one that I'm just taking out pierced, I had an orgasm, and so that's something really special to me.

Missokyst, I can understand where you're coming from with that, I think that's sort of what I've got going on right now and I don't like it at all.  The constant need for cleaning, that and also pain I would get, not fun in the slightest.

Mf... I'm starting to wonder if nipple piercing is that great of an idea, because I don't want to have the gooey yuck, I mean I can take care of them and clean them, but that one part was just annoying be all hell.

Now I'm starting to wonder about clit piercings.

Strewth, my tongue was good to go after a couple of weeks.

I'm not a doctor, and we are comparing different body parts. But you haven't mentioned semi-hourly cleaning out the blood, dead skin, gunk from the inside of your piercings?

I was hypersensitive to the bug count inside my tongue, when it was still healing. You can really taste when gunk starts rotting, and when it's still healing it will produce gunk. But some tricks I used might help you...

I regularly wiggled my barbell back and forth to scrape off any gunk from inside.
I washed inside my tongue, by removing the barbell, putting some salty water (or vodka) in my mouth, blocking my mouth with my tongue, and squirting the water through my piercing at pressure. This leaves the hole empty and sterile.
The salt has the added bonus of drying out the skin so it hardened up quicker. I don't know how flexible you are, but a water pistol or syringe without a needle, should do the same job.
Since nipples aren't internal I'd see whether taping over them with antiseptic lined bandages/band aids during the day, might keep them sterile under sweaty clothes. Remembering to take regular breaks to dry them and re-cover, of course.
Maybe a cotton bra lined with antibiotic powder?
Maternity bra with milk pads? I dunno, one of the lactating girls here, can probably suggest something fashionable, but discretely absorbent for surrounding your areolas in hygienic gloop.
The sun's fantastic for air drying, but consult your local customs before attempting it 24/7.

Once it "heals" and forms dry skin, the maintenance required drops away.

And on the subject of infected skin wounds don't forget to look in the mirror regularly. If you ever see dark veins radiating from infected skin areas, check with a doctor ASAP as you may have blood poisoning. If you also feel faint, dial 911, as you'll be hitting the floor and not getting back up Real soon.

I had a cartilidge peircing that rejected 7 times before I stubbornly got one to keep. My best friend has his nipples pierced and both rejected his first time, but so far the second go around has been OK. He opted for longer straight barbells instead of rings on his second pierce, which the piercer wasnt thrilled with but he did. They werent tugged and irritated as much as the rings were and they healed after about 4 months. A little harder to clean but definately worth the extra effort. You might want to take the one you have out and heal up now, so you dont have to wait longer. Next time, only let ONE person do BOTH peircings. If they suggest otherwise, say no. Let the piercer know ahead of time you have rejected before and get some ideas about a second try. Bigger/smaller gauge, hoop or barbell, metal type... they know more about it than we do. Better, though to amke sure you take it out now before it has a chance to fodm any major scar tissue. The more irritated you let it get before you remove it, the more scar tissue that might form when it does heal.

Okay...

It's not unusual for a nipple piercing to still be healing after three months. They're not the fastest piercings to heal.

It sounds like you may be over-cleaning the piercing. Do it once or twice a day, generally the best time is right after you shower. Don't put any ointments on it, don't move the jewelry any more than you have to.

If you have large breasts, they're harder to heal. They'll be especially difficult with rings instead of bars. Make sure your bra isn't too tight (a LOT of women end up wearing ones that don't fit well).

If the piercing is way down into the aureola, is your skin actually putting tension on the jewelry? If so, you're probably not going to be able to heal it.

Don't go to that piercer again.

Good luck!

I had my ears pierced in 1978 and they never healed, never fully closed and continue to ooooooze a few times a month. I've taken that as a sign that I should not get anything else pierced, ever.
