Ah, sorry man.  I'm not a bike expert.  But if you really want one, and you want to come all the way over here to buy one...more power to you.  My 65 year old father has this obsession with buying an old Triumph TR4.  He had a brand new one when they first sold in the U.S.  It was the first car he ever bought.  I guess he wants to relive his youth.  He looks around on E-bay, and thumbs through auto magazines.  I don't get it, but I am glad to see him happy.  I hope he gets the one he wants.  You only live once, Carpe Diem.

You guys are great.......

But then I don't expect most women to get bikes.......

I don't know much about the VRod.. mine was a 77 Lowrider.  I have heard that the Vrod has sportsbike -like handling, though.

(and contrary to popular belief, the newer harleys don't need constant wrenching).

Have you considered a Buell?

DomAviator -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (5/28/2008 3:31:54 PM)

That is some nasty shit, DA.  I have never understood the love Air Force guys have for it.  A bourbon made in Connecticut?  Hell, that's like a barbecue joint in Wisconsin.  I'm a Maker's Mark man myself.

Ducks on bikes .
I love the Internet [:D] .

Oops, sorry DA.  The first time I ever had it was with a high school chum of mine that was in the Air Force.  He was a weird motherfucker.  His favorite band was Slave Raider.  If you don't know who they are, think shitty 80's glam-metal band without the GWAR theatrics.

bipolarber -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (5/28/2008 4:17:41 PM)

Not an expert on bikes either... but I do know a bit about insurance... Harleys are far more expensive to insure than other bikes in the same class. Why, you ask? Because they get ripped off far more often. The brand is so popular that they become a target.

Otherwise, I'm not gonna comment. I'll stick to wild-ass political talk... stuff that's mild by comparison.

No problem slaveboy - its popular with Air Force too. Basically its "pilot hooch" all pilots I have ever known, military or commercial, have a bottle of the weed tucked away.. You should see some of the parties in the bars in Houston. Get a bar full of astronauts, fighter pilots, and airline pilots - bring out the Jerimiah Weed and stand back LOL!  For those who dont know what were talking about heres a musical tribute to it...

Edited to add: by the way Slaveboy, I agree its horrible... but as the song says "It tastes like fuck". I dont know how the Airforce Drinks it. but we would light it on fire slam it then yell out "cocksucker motherfucker!" $12 a bottle and 100 proof LOL

Gotta watch it, sometimes the peanut gallery will just grab a pet issue and run with it. Just gotta ignore some people.

One thing about the VROD series is that they seem to be the only H-D bikes that actually depreciate at a normal rate (at least around here). Buying one that's two or three years old can save you five grand or more. They do have better handling than most of the air-cooled Harleys, though they're still heavier than they really should be for such a new design. Seems like there are three or four different Vxxx models that are only differentiated by paint and chrome options, although i'll admit i'm a bit vague on that... Some of the blacked-out ones look pretty sweet, and it's nice to see an HD with decent performance again... If i had that kind of money laying around to toss at a bike, it'd at least be in the top five.

If you care more about the ride than the logo, i'd suggest trying out a Yamaha Warrior- aluminum frame, loads of power, brakes and suspension tech based on modern supersports technology. Tho i hated the ergos on it, a lot of people swear by them.

And you should hear an old Honda CX500 running open head pipes... it'll give you a headache pretty quick, but it does make the blood pump...

bipolarber -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (5/28/2008 7:59:53 PM)

Oh, the one other thing that Harleys might have going for them... (as far as I know it may just be biker propaganda) but the engine design on Harleys tend to cause a vibration that a lot of women seem to enjoy... on long rides. Any truth to this? Do hogs really earn the nickname of  being a roadworthy "Hitachi Magic Wand?"

To be fair, you did start off claiming you were going to ditch a perfectly good Triumph for a Harley... did you really expect to be taken seriously after that?[:D]

As a former owner of an older harley (shovelhead motor... before they started rubbermounting the engines) I can say that my bike would never replace Mr Hitachi. I think it has something  to do with where the seat hits certain  parts *grin*  I ordered my seat with an eye towards comfort on long rides, not orgasms..lol

CraZYWiLLiE -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (5/28/2008 9:03:25 PM)

The V rod is a different bike, longer and water cooled v twin.
I prefer my FXDX Super Glide Sport, it was made for the twisties. It is quiet, and I love it that way....
If you get a bike, make sure you get passing lights it is easier to be seen than heard.

DDraigeuraid -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (5/28/2008 11:12:23 PM)

Why give up a Triumph?  Cornering, etc.  Except for the Lucifer Electronics...which sometimes makes the ride ...eventful?
Dragon
(would love to have another Triumph)

Yeah thanks man, I had begun to notice those peanuts, I just wonder which one is Charlie Brown?

Yeah...I checked out the US ebay and V-rods do seem to deppreciate alot faster than the regular Harley's.

However in europe the regular Harley's tend to depreciate at a slightly faster rate than the V-rod.

The V-rod is far more popular in europe than it is in the states.

Probably because it does corner pretty good.

I'm interested in stripping the V-rod down to bare esentials, should make it considerably lighter.

If your interested, I came across a Japanese site for a Harley customiser that specialises in V-rods.

http://www.badland.net/

Most of the V-rod customisers are based in Germany.

http://www.no-limit-custom.com/bikes.htm

I will check out the Yamaha Warrior.

Thanks.
