First go check the wiki page it explains that the so called rebel flag never existed while the CSA existed. It was invented afterwards and came to prominence during the Civil Rights era when state legislatures all over the south added it to their flags or directed it to be flown. It is not a historical symbol of the CSA and is well known now because it was a symbol used by segregationists.
I grew up in Georgia and I certainly saw it waved by racists. I remember going to Stone Mountain for a picnic during the summer and seeing a Klan rally where the flag was waved and a cross was burned. Later I found that the KKK had deep roots on and around Stone Mountain which was only a few miles away from my home in Conyers.
thanks....i doubt anyone would notice the difference if i flew one of the flags that is shown on that page, because they would see only the part that screamed nazi denying racist, but i understand your point now. and the following rant isnt directed to you Ken, just in general.
the kkk has been all around here, as i mentioned in my post. they were a free sideshow at the fair for a few years. stone mountain is just one huge monument to slavery i guess, looked at from the eyes of some. maybe instead of the south trying to leave the union again, we should just be kicked out.
im amazed to learn how we are viewed by others. amazed more to learn how easily the bs is believed by folks who have never been here or who move here and seem to hate everything we are, yet they choose to stay.
no ones mind will change on this i dont think....which is understandable and sad. those screaming that we are nothing but racists hear only that and have no desires to hear any other reasons we are proud to be from the south....yet they want us to change how we are, because they say so, and they know so much better where our heart and soul is than we do.
ppppffftthhhh......come to my house tonight, when there will be probably 10 folks here, half black and half white more than likely, and tell them you think im a racist. id bet ya gonna get ya ass walked to the curb quickly, if youre lucky.
the south....it aint much but its home, and i plan to stay here. and im damn proud of the way we act.......the wacko folks that get the publicity are not an accurate portrayal of the south i have grown up in.
