When we talk about melting pot of personnas and concepts. the lifestyle is one place that fits that really well.
making your own standards or adhereing to someones else's way of thinking.  we talk about age , fiedlity, kinks of all types.  In all the muck n stuff did you ever just take a nilla view on the outside and say.

What is it about this lifestyle that is really attractive. What makes it worth dealing with dead beat doms lying dommes or mental subbies or mental people.. I am not talking from any point of View except this one.

Exploration is great just what price you set may be too high

I look at it from the opposite side of the coin then you do.  There are deadbeats, hustlers, liars, unstable, etc people everywhere you look.  If I have to sift through those people anyway why shouldn't I maintain my expectations for a life that I desire?  And actually as my path grew longer and the more weeds I pulled the firmer I became on my expectations and the less willing I was to settle for something less then amazing for me.

*curious* we deal with dead beat lying mental people in every aspect of our life. Why should this one be any different? For ME the dead beat lying mental people ARE the attraction to this lifestyle gives me a different perspective and knowledge into other areas that I'm not familiar with.

Okay, we have "melting pot" "making our own standards", "adhering to someone else's way of thinking", "fidelity", "what makes the lifestyle attractive" and "what makes it worth dealing with ...mental people"

Then you say

What the fuck is "View" capitalized for and any chance you could have someone help you put whatever you are talking about into a cohesive paragraphh.  None of us would want to derail this thread but I am not sure it arrived on rails either so help us out.

Dead beat doms are no worse than the dead beat and abusive boyfriends out there in the "vanilla world". There are crazies, stalkers, men hung up on their mothers and women hung up on their fathers.

We don't have it a touch harder or easier in terms of crazy.

People who practise BDSM come from life.  In life there are people deemed 'crazy'.
All of life is one big old risk. Be aware that BDSM isn't any 'different' or 'special'.

And, how about "Deadbeat Dads" (and moms), who leave their kids behind and don't make any effort to support them?

Crazies are everywhere.  And, the worst part is that most of them look 'perfectly normal'.

OP, by any chance do you have a "Vanilla Fetish"?  It seems to me that you are sort of fixated on it.  It's fine, if you do.  i think a lot of people might be undeclared 'vanilla fetishists'.  Come to think of it, i might have something of a 'vanilla fetish', myself, wanting the nice house in the 'burbs' scene, which, thanks to my wonderful Master, is about to become reality in just a couple of weeks.  Any way, not judging.  Just wondering.

Yes I do. However I don't differentiate between vanilla and "THE LIFESTYLE" as it's all one of the same thing known as 'society'.

You see the boundaries have been smudged quite a lot possibly by the Internet and the accessibility into kink and BDSM by many different people in society. I just see people, period.

One thing you've always got to be careful of, I feel is social stigma - stereotyping and labelling people either through appearance, their behaviour or lifestyle, or even what I would call 'tribal' social stigma.

Sad to say I see all three forms of social stigma here on these boards and can give three distinct examples of this - for example the recent thread on she-males (social stigma by appearance), earlier on YKINOK (social stigma by lifestyle or behaviour) and Gor (tribal social stigma).

This is something that we here all have to be very careful about, especially when we are throwing people in to broad categories such as we can see in the OP and which also happens in society - gay and straight, black and white, and even within the community such as lifestyle and professional. These appears to somehow lead us into a false sense of security that we are talking about 'us' and 'them' which is what we can see in the above OP - deadbeat Doms, lying Dommes, mental subbies and mental people.

This kind of way of thinking tends to be very divisive within the community as indeed in society and this is how YKINOK attitudes are formed.

I don't know about mental illness, in fact I don't see this as any sort of major issue. What I do feel however is a more pressing issue is the danger presented by the CM Thought Police, kink fascists and that insidious minority of sanctimonious neonazis who are so deluded that they believe that their opinion counts as The Majority View. Disclaimer: I'm NOT referring to the OP here, or to anyone, but just stating a general opinion and observation from my own perspective.

The Moderators by and large do a wonderful job in keeping such elements off the boards but I also feel we share some of that responsibility as guests on this free website. Again, my own personal opinion.

As for these mental people I can't say. What i do know is that we have all come here by our own individual paths, some of which have crossed, we have all got through our childhoods, we all have lives, pasts, relationships, we live, we breathe, we all have our circumstances, and therefore we all have our issues. Everyone has issues, I have issues, none of us here are immune to the stresses, trials, difficulties and crises that life and our relationships with other people periodically throw at us.

I therefore don't see 'us' and 'them' I just see 'us' and 'us' and more 'us'.. I just see people. I'm reluctant or unwilling to pass judgment on someone until I've met them and/or spent some time with them and walked alongside them in their path through life. You may think, you may perceive, you may understand, but your understanding is really only limited by your own perception and isn't quite the same as knowledge gained from personal experience.

I go back to something I shared in an earlier thread. A French proverb. It is easier to lie to others than to stop deceiving yourself. I know this. I've been there, done it, worn the T-shirt.

If I ever do come across 'mental' people here - which I personally don't find all that dangerous or threatening - I'm often tempted to make contact and leave an avenue open for that person to get back to me and share what it is they're going through, off the boards, with me in private. Why? I've learned by example, and there are some here who have taught me to do the same. Not everybody can be strong or in control all the time. Some people struggle, and I mean really struggle, and the last thing I feel these people need is to be dismissed or avoided. I'm not a therapist, nor a counsellor, but just another friendly human being off whom they can bounce their ideas, feelings and emotions off. We all need friends, and everyone needs someone.

I'm not too sure what point was being made about price..all I know is I don't want to think about putting a price on what and who I have found on this site. I guess this is just my way of saying it's appreciated.

The thing I find attractive about this lifestyle for Me is that there are women who want/need/need/enjoy/like to be dominated and or controlled in ways that I enjoy controlling them so for Me it's a "hand in glove" thing. As for as all the numpties about, there are numpties about everywhere because thats just life, so you might as well accept it and live Y/your life.

There are also, good people around, in -and out of the lifestyle and meeting up with the odd bad apple is made worth it when you get what you have wanted from this BDSM thing for 20 odd years-I rode a ponygirl last month at the BBB for the first time-still can't get it out of My head, never will. So it's worth putting up with a few plonkers ultimately.

Unless we become solely slaves in a real sense, we are still humans with likes, desires, and choices.
There are users and abusers in all walks of life.
And personally, it wouldn't matter to me if the guy looked like a god with an arm that could throw for hours, if he was a dick, I would still avoid him.
Exploration is great.  But I would step back from this forever if the only chance I had to connect was choosing someone who was an asshole.
For me, that price is too high.

I hope this will somewhat make sense.   I had dark fantasies of doing wicked things to girls back when I was kid, when I was teenager I actually started engaging in BDSM play.  A sort of slow and natural innocent progession with me a somebody I was very close with.   I had no idea in hell about an "official lifestyle" for this stuff.

I started off from the outside perspective to begin with.  Then a friend introduced to "the lifestyle".   I did not realize there was a whole subculture of people doing this madness.  Sure I knew other people were into kinky crazy shit.  Just not as whole sort of get together subculture with "the lifestyle" slapped on it.

I'm a bit of a Rebel to begin with, meaning I don't always follow along with the crowd or group.   Tend to think for myself and what is or is not good for me, or what I will or will not do and such.

The only thing about "the lifestyle" that appeals to me, is that I get to meet other crazy people with similar interests.   In terms of exploration, I have not regretted anything over the years.  There is still more I'd love to explore.  I stopped growing on a BDSM/kink level for awhile, but that was for like 12 years.  Still did not change all my experiences or who I am.

I've recently stepped back from all the labels and molds of "the lifestyle", you know the subjective things that people love to debate about.  Sure, I have some really set in stone or general meanings on a personal level for me.   However, these are based on my POV, my own experiences and hell even the type of people I was involved with in and out of the lifestyle itself.

As much as people complain and bitch about fakes and wannabe's online, I have encountered some very wonderful people.   It's nice to be able to interact with other people in the lifestyle from all over the world.  Not some isolated area within a 60 mile or so radius of living.

Some of my thoughts, views and perspectives have been a little readjusted from interacting with people on this website even.  Sure, there might be days, when I simply roll my eyes over something that is clearly stupid.   But you know what, I still enjoy the fact that "the lifestyle" exists.

If something is on my mind regarding a particular topic, or if I have a question or want to bounce thoughts around with others.   Places such as this website exist.  It's nice to be able to exchange and interact with other people with similar involvement and interests.

No matter who says what, or what other people believe is the right/wrong way.  At the end of the day, what counts is what we do with our own lives.  What decisions we make, and our own choices.

It's not a matter of looking at things from the outside or inside.  It's looking at the big picture overall.   Includes inside and outside views.   I always tell people this, give me more then one reason to do something, and I'll probally be doing it.  I love multi-purpose mult-meaning things.

The lifestyle is simply a group of people with similar interests to me.  Not the be all end of of life itself.

I'm also into music, song writting, singing, playing guitar, lately exploring and trying to get better at Mixing (sound engineering).   Online has been great for interating with other Musicians as well.   Some places are very specific at mixing songs, some places very specific at singing or playing guitars.

Not only am I a BDSMer, I'm a Computer Programmer, I'm a Musician, I'm into SciFi as well.   So many other interests in life.   I Love the beach, I love Hiking, been a little while, but I enjoy Rock Climbing too.  When I was younger I was really big into MotoCross.  I never raced Motocross, however, I had my bike out in the trails and places jumping hills, and doing lots of strange and questionably dangerous things on my bike.  Been years since I did any of that.  I'm more into making music compared to doing motocross.  I don't even think about riding dirt bike anymore.

My point is this, some interest simply win out over other interests.  There are only so many hours in a day, so many days in a week.  Only have so much free time to devote to things.

BDSM has always been a strange driving force in my life, goes a little deeper compared to Motocross.  Music has always been a strange driving force in my life as well.    I'm pretty certain at my age, that things such a BDSM and Music, well those things are not gonna change any time soon.

Melting pot? Ugh. Doesn't that just mean we all get boiled down to the same overcooked, underflavored mush? Let's NOT take culinary advice from the English (lovely people, by the way, excellent with the cuppas just not the solid stuff)
