Obviously you've never attended a PTA meeting if you think this is confined to the 'lifestyle'. It is what happens whenever you get a group of people together who only have one thing in common. My suggestion is not to apply any general expectations to the people you meet, anymore than you should have high expectations of the other people in the grocery store at the same moment you are there.

Meet, screen, move on or linger.

For those of you who seem to have forgotten, lets check this thread out again.

To the OP:  You don't have to be crazy to work in an asylum...but it helps.  Same principle, different venue.  Despite the practices of psychology, there really isn't a standard for mental cases; people's conditions are analyzed and then based on the attending's judgment.  As for deadbeats...well, others already said the same thing.

To Mod Sixteen:  I wasn't sure what you were referencing when you linked to thread hijacks.  Would you mind clarifying that?  As one who tends to lurk more in P&RS than anywhere else, I'm quite aware my odd humour may sometimes be taken as a thread hijack - so knowing what you were tipping your hat to might help me avoid the same pitfall in the future.

If your post was not pulled or you did not get a warning, you do not have to feel you have to avoid any pitfalls.Reading the link provided sums up the problem that occured earlier.

Ok, cool.  I'm presuming you had to pull a post earlier that was hijacking the thread, because what I did see before your post didn't seem like hijacks.  Makes sense.  I just got confuzzled when I looked at the prior posts and scratched my head, referencing them with the link you cited.

nutcases exist everywhere, they provide comic relief for the rest of us in every walk of life.  maybe it seems like there are more of them here because this is a smaller population.  some of them are more visible in the crowd,  maybe that's why it seems like there are more of them here.

When we talk about melting pot of personnas and concepts. the lifestyle is one place that fits that really well.
making your own standards or adhereing to someones else's way of thinking.  we talk about age , fiedlity, kinks of all types.  In all the muck n stuff did you ever just take a nilla view on the outside and say.

What is it about this lifestyle that is really attractive. What makes it worth dealing with dead beat doms lying dommes or mental subbies or mental people.. I am not talking from any point of View except this one.

Exploration is great just what price you set may be too high

Hi LBaby:
I don't know how to answer this.
I do know that I try my best not to be judgmental and I try my best to have insight into my own issues and where that goes around and around I will ask others.
I do know that I did a great deal of work in workshops during the 80's into a concept known as the World of Absolutes rather than the World of Opposites.
In the World of Opposites we learn by distinguishing;
black from white
male from female
up from down
mad from sane
old from young
Chinese from Dutch (for example)
Roman Catholic from Protestant
and so forth. Actually at a deeper level we thus learn to define almost everything in terms of what it is NOT (ie a Protestant is not a Roman Catholic because.....a chair is not a staircase because.....)..rather than to define something by what it IS. because of course it is more work to fully learn about what something completely is.
Everythingi's related rather more than it is opposed. Everything is realtive. So I just do my best to remind myself of this. for example I did not give up living on a Vanilla Planet when I became a submissive. In deed I did not suddenly become a submissive. I am not submissive as opposed to being dominant. And as a submissive i am unique amongst all other submissives. In fact I am unique amongst all of HUMANITY. wow!
So: I do not see madness, i do not see dead beat Doms.....I see males that i would prefer to hang out with because in the blessed World of Everything I have choices. If the last other remaining person on this planet labelled themself as 'mad' then I guess i'd be forced to rely upon them for survival. but we both know that is unlikely to happen except as a conceptiual argument (with which one could win almost any line of argument).
So: it is the way it is: people are just people (although madness might be desribed as a dangerous or surprisinbg). and as for subs? well you never know where their switch is lol.
I have choices; I like danger, I like surprises but having to make distinctions back in dualistic mode? No thanks. (Call me crazy or fucked up. That's your choice).

Don't forget kids little League Games!  You'd be amazed at how well unbehaved the parents act compared to the kids.  The attitudes and such, back stabbing and heated passionate remarks.   Then those poor umpires and couches... the things are they are accused of.  Such verbal humilation and etc...  LOL...

I'm amazed people believe it's limited to just the lifetyle.   Seen the same thing with Musicians even.  It's everywhere!!

Well first Latexbaby, i've met a whole slew of lovely P/pl in D/s as compared to the days when i was vanilla.  Yes there are those who are here for a variety of bad reasons and it's a pain to deal with them, but  man, lemme telll you, that's nothing compared to my experiences on Yahoo Personals.

The only difference I've experienced is the odd phenomena of people getting into kink and EXPECTING there to be a difference.

I personally do not suffer those sorts, at least not to any extent of my controlling.

very cool post    here is what i have gathered so far  life is this.  Everyone has views no ones view is less important It only matters to our own thoughts

IT is the standards we set for our selves that we drive the what limits or boundries we are to travel.  (there is good and bad in all of us it is the side we choose that makes us who we are) people always have the choice to do what is right or what is easy )))) from harry potter  I love those lines

here is the nuts and bolts of it  if it  anyone can fallow fads for fashionable taste.  that is easy  but doing your own thing your way is always more rewarding
yep

Its good old fashioned desire that draws us back. The fact is were not a part of this kind of community to be with the "IN" crowd. We just want what we want. And Just like anybody else we are willing to go through some crap to get it.

Lol, sorry, english slang. A numpty is someone (male or female) who does/says things which are rude or stupid etc. The U.S equivalent of a jerk. :).
