thank god for those cold mist humidifiers....saved my ass this winter. I never even knew they existed till this year and it has helped the whole gas heat drying me out thing all winter.

Sorry to hear about everyone's little sickies......yeah, it sucks when the little guys are sick.....you feel so helpless when you see them suffering thru everything. Here's hoping that everyone starts feeling better!

had an unexpected snow storn with rain and melting yesterday - lots of flooding. back to the deep freeze and more snow tomorrow

just dandy, Aylee...spent the night out in the desert watching piles of tires....well, ok, TV, too....but hey, there ain't a lot going on out there! But hey....at least I can say I'm sleeping with a guy one night a week!....Course, it's a cop, and he's usually crashed face down on the table, and I've hijacked the little couch.....they put a travel trailer out there for us...all the comforts of home, actually. Unfortunately, since I'm in uniform and on the clock, I'm not able to sleep, no matter how much I know it's ok.....really, the Chief even said so! But old habits.....

ok - just to give you all an update so I don't have to explain it a million times. most of you know that I have this beautiful, loving, sweet girl at home .. she has a speech delay and diabetes. yesterday she was diagnosed with ADHD. medications start tomorrow. I just need a few days to get my head around it.

Boozy, I'm sorry to hear your news, but don't be discouraged.....my son was also diagnosed when he was smaller, 5 years old.....he was on meds for about a year, the decision was made to stop them, and he's been pretty much ok since then. He's 23 now......pretty much has it under his own control now.

Give the meds a chance tho......it will make her, and your, lives easier. If ADD and ADHD was a known problem when I was a kid, I would have been diagnosed the same....and trust me, I can remember the frustration of not having control over things, and how tough it was in school, and growing up. I watched my son go through alot of the same things, and have a friend whose son is also going through this. Since he's been on meds, he's such a happier kid.....he doesn't scream and holler and throw tantrums anymore when he doesn't get his way, he doesn't get frustrated when something doesn't go the way he likes it to, or wants it to go. He can actually concentrate on his school work, he's not disruptive in class.....he's a much calmer person all the way around. And that makes everything else easier for him, and his family.

soul - ADHD/ADD was first described in the medical literature in 1845. A more thorough report was published in The Lancet in 1910. This is not a "condition of the times". It is not a "new" condition. As with many other conditions and diseases we are simply learning more each day and becoming better equipped to diagnose and treat. I expect her to have a fabulous future and will do what I need to do to ensure her success.

when i was a kid ADD/ADHD was brushed off to bad behavior and (according to my mother) drug use

. Perhaps a diagnosis would have surfaced, but it was something to be ashamed of...she never tried for medical intervention because, to her, a behavioral issue was a sign of bad parenting and that was unthinkable.
I am not slamming my mother as much s i am saying that was the thought process as little as 20 years ago.
