Rhett Butler, omg, His charactor makes me swoon. Pass the smelling salts please.

Also, i agree with others here about Lady Heather. She was awesome.

i also like the Stabler charactor on Law and Order.

Daemon(A force to be reckoned with, even when in chains)- Anne Bishop's 'The Black Jewels Trilogy' along with multiple other characters from that book.(You could say Saetan, Lucivar, and Jaenelle in this, too)

Terry Goodkinds' Sword of Truth series(haven't read the latest), has TONS of Dom/Domme references, including Mord'Sith. Richard Rahl from that book has a very dominant, but fair personality, too.[I wouldn't be surprised if T.G. is in the lifestyle, because much of his detail and depth into some things is practically erotica reading]

Robert Jordan(may he rest in piece), Wheel of Time series, many of the women throughout had very domineering personalities, and it's a running joke through the books of 'how to control a member of the opposite sex'

T.G. definitely created a world that has the ebb and flow of D/s etc, as a very visceral part, even if it wasn't always openly mentioned(which it generally was)

I think many of U/us are confusing individualists (like Rearden in Atlas Shrugged, The Stainless Steel Rat, and Riddick) with Dominants. Dominants need others, work well with others, and are comfortable being in positions of authority. (The argument can be made that Reardern, as head of his company, could be a Dom--but I think his situation relative to his family makes him--at least for most of the book--much less so; Galt is a Dom, though--as is Dominique).

Bucking authority is not necessarily a Dominant trait (having natural authority is more Domly), but it is essential for individualists, rebels, and renegades.

Darth Vader is a Dom. So was Anthony Hopkins' character in Meet Joe Black, and Ed Harris' character in both Apoloo 13, and in The Truman Show.

The character of the Godfather is a Dom, as was the character of Gen. Patton (as played by George C. Scott). The character of Maximus (from the Gladiator) was a Dom for the first 1/3 of the film, but was a rebel (no longer a Dom) through the last 2/3 of the movie.

1) picard: the closest example to my type of dominance. firm yet very inviting, very daddy dom...someone who people put more pressure on themselves to succeed for then he would ever put on them... Something that I believed in since I heard it(way before I ever got involved in this ): "don't ever give an order that you yourself would not be willing to follow"

2) Lady Heather: at first I liked the fact that she was becoming a bit vulnerable... Specifically because it showed her as being REAL. the fact that she needed a friend...(and I just loved the relationship between her and grissom) but then of course they took it to far.

I'm thinking more Tyler Durden NOT the Narrator;) while there are moments when the Narrator does definitely step up his Dom game...it really is just a false empowerment given by him following in Tylers Footprints, other times when it comes to Marla...or when he is trying to take down project mayhem...it seems like he is being a Dom...but really he is just barely hanging on to any form of control he has left... not very dommly if you ask me;)

Damn..I forgot about the King in 300... he is an exceptional Dom in many ways.

I get your point but we have very different definitions of what makes a dominant dominant.

I'm not familiar with the other characters but it is precisely what Rearden doesn't need that arouses my subissive side. Anyone, fictional or otherwise, who can arouse my submissive side is dominant. Therefore, Rearden is dominant.

Yes, the [solipsismal] world does revolve around me and my perception of it as such.
