I'm with Asher.  Unless it's loud enough to distract me from what I'm doing, it doesn't bother me.

I don't hink the law protects You from the evils of Rap Music, LOL

actually it does. my dad's unit at the hospital where he works at got written up on harrasment charges for playing it.

Why how delightful!  Now if only something could be done about drivers whose music is so freaking loud I get a headache idling next to them, waiting for the light to turn green.

     MOST classical music is Christian religious music...and people don't seem to mind that.  i think it's gospel or contemporary music that gets people all up in arms.  i'm a Christian...i love gospel...but don't really care for contemporary Christian music...hate most Christian rock...and wouldn't want to listen to anything i categorize as crap musicno matter what genre.
    i have a co-worker that listens to Rush Limbaugh...and some other talk radio cocksuckeresque types.  i find it offensive...but not to the point of filing a formal complaint.  As a  Christian, i do remind people constantly that not everyone is a believer and therefore, the grace before meals and the making children in public school pray is definately a "no-no" in my book.  i guess the closest thing i could think of, is when people play that "Proud to be an American" song by Lee Greenwood, and get really loud at the "STAND UP!" part....it's quasi-religious for a certain type of person...and makes me feel guilty that whilst being proud to be an American...i'm not as gung-ho about it as the dude with the Texas belt buckle crying, (actually brought to tears by this song!) in the booth next to mine at IHOP.

why do you think i left the church? seriously? lol. i have nothing against christians or the religion, just the way that a lot of the ones that i used to interact with when i was younger, to the point that i distrust the institution as a whole. i respect the actual religion a lot just not the way that a lot of people i see practice it.

Maybe because it's such an old religion, or maybe because it's always been hyper-political, IMO, no one has more to be ashamed of in terms of past -- and present -- conduct than Catholics.

* The Spanish Inquisition

* The Spanish Missions in California

* The practice of 'recruiting' future clergy from people in the 8th grade or younger

* The priest scandals

* The nun scandals, which never made the papers

* Catholic Social Services, which would rather place a vulnerable person in a dangerous -- but Catholic -- home than risk exposing them to another religion

* The Papcy and the whole 'One True Church' thing -- please.  What meglomania.

I could go on, but I'm sure everyone has their own list.

If it was sacred classical music, I'd enjoy it.  If it was hymns or christian rock or something along those lines, I would probably make comments about it -  "Ugh, you're listening to this crap again?"  And then I'd go to my office and listen to my own music.

At my last job they had muzak piped in throughout the building.  I had the facilities person turn off the speaker above my cubicle.   I was warned that I'd miss overhead announcements.  That was a chance I was willing to take.

If everyone has the right to listen to what ever they want why should I be forced to listen to her choice of music when I find it personally offensive and inappririate. This was loud enough were I heard it in my classroom, my students were complaining (no I didn't make my issues known to them) and becoming very distracted due to it.

We work with children, in a nonreligious setting and I think it is a HUGE no no to push your religous belief onto others especially children without their parents explicit conscent.

Thank you all for your imput.

          As xxBlushesxx pointed out, the poll needs an ignore it/tune it out option.  If it is too loud, ask that it be turned down.  If the supervisor has done this, might it be the result of a Christian in the work area who has his/her teeth put on edge by some of the filth that gets played on the rock stations?

       If this is just about music you don't like, at the same sort of volume you would choose for something more to your taste, get over it, or get another job.  Find something everyone can live with, or turn it off.  Your boss isn't paying you to listen to music anyway.

Never let someone else's actions irritate you.  If you do, you are giving that irritating person control.  Put ear plugs in.  They can play all the catholic crutch music they want....you won't be hearing it.  Problem solved.
