As said by someone else, what is the intent for cleanliness? Is this a toy you found in a dumpster? Are you lending it to a friend... heh.. regifting? Are you washing it for the first time? Are you doing a maintenance washing? I have My Pet mouth clean her toys when she's down with them for the day, keep them cool and dry, and occasionally use a toy cleaner from any sex shop. This only applies to a very simple dildo, though. Some thoughts on washing... Hot water will dry faster, meaning less chance for anything to grow =\. This is less true of rubber, more true of glass and metal. Anything with crevices must have special attention paid. Water, hot or not, is not a very powerful grime remover, but soaps (almost all kinds) at any temperature are. Chemicals, such as chlorine, bleach (which should never be mixed), toy cleaners, soaps, all work at low temperature. For the very worried, change the sanitizing agent occasionally. Any colony that is resistant to one type will grow more powerful. (If you were lucky enough to get a heat-resistant bacteria [if it even exists], you'd want to use a chemical agent at least once.) This is the super-bug theory. Keep everything dry afterwards. Edit: This is good stuff: From a brewing site I used... They talk about sterlizing with chemicals, dry heat (the oven), wet heat, special cleaners.. http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter2-2.html
