it depends.  i've used magicshave sensitive formula on the hoo-ha and never had a bit of problem with it.  right now i'm back to shaving and i hate that it takes 3-4 times (for me) to have everything adjusted to being shaved on.

sorry I'm late to the party but here's my two cents:

Brazilians rule - esp in summer. Just for variety, I'm a fan of the 'racing stripe'. In case anybody finds my casual research and experimenting at all useful...

Wax pot:
 http://www.amazon.com/Gigi-0225-GIGI-Wax-Warmer/dp/B000BI4EMQ

My findings: I love this warmer !! The honee wax and creme wax are both excellent. It takes me a while but I wax everything at home. I visit the spa once or twice a year now - just as a change from standing on my head to do the 'hard to reach' bits.

other stuff I learned:

this items gets the wax off you:  http://www.amazon.com/Gigi-Wax-Off-Remover-oz/dp/B0009VO8PI
this items gets the wax off everything else: http://www.amazon.com/Gigi-Clean-Purpose-Cleaner-Warmers/dp/B000A6UJ14
the cardboard wax collars for the pot: PITA....not worth the money
applicator sticks: re-supply at any craft store. The little tiny applicator sticks might be a bit hard to find, though

I'm not a fan of the muslin strips as they leave fiber bits that are worse than lint.  Purchase  muslin from the local  fabric store and experiment before committing to it.

I AM a fan of the white composite strips the spas use.  A good alternative is embroidery stabilizer (in any fabric store). Non-fusible interfacing (also found in fabric stores) may be an option as well but I've not experimented with that.

Waxing is easily part of play. Not sure I'd be willing to wax someone's manberries, though.  I'd leave that to the pros at the spa because I'm sure any ingrowth could lead to issues. Everything ELSE is fair game :)

Microwaveable  wax
After much experimenting, I found this one to be excellent. It includes small vials of pre and post wax oils. http://texasbeautysupplycom.stores.yahoo.net/and64131.html   (I didnt order from these folks but their website has an excellent photo of the box.)

Shaving:  an exotic dancer told me she uses hair conditioner to keep everything smooth after she shaves. My skin hates razors and I hate 'stubblies' so shaving hasnt been part of my repertoire for many years.

Would so love to do the waxing at home! I too, am an all over girl and shaving the unmentionables every day gets to be a real hassle. I wonder at the feeling though, I mean if you wax the labia, there is give, where there isn't on the eyebrow, chin, etc. Does waxing everything really work that well or are there still bits that will have to be shaved? I am interested in doing this not just from the hair removal point of view, but the fabulous pain aspect as well. Just curious.

I *knew* I forgot to address something earlier - thank you !

I learned the hard way that, if you're doing it yourself, the labia is best shaved unless you can wax it while simultaneously
* holding the wax stick
* reloading from the pot
* holding the target area taut
* orienting between the mirror and the target area for the bits not easily seen from your perspective
* reaching for the cloth strips and;
* preventing the wax from dripping on the floor, your clothes, pets, etc etc.

The parts that are waxed stay smoother longer, no stubblies, and (over time) re-growth becomes more and more sparse.

* Some speak highly of applying a bit of talc first.
* Put down some plastic before you start dripping wax. The wax will become a permanent part of any towels you use
*Wait a day before you treat yourself to a spa pedicure. Those leg wraps or any treatment with sea *salt will really sting if you've just waxed.
* Disposable gloves (you can order sizes S,M, L from drugstore.com) save you having to revisit the nail salon after you are done.
*Just remember - remove body jewelry, watches, rings, bracelets, etc. before getting anywhere near the wax pot !

Thank you, that sounds like a difficult job for one person, perhaps I will just lay back and let Daddy do my waxing for me. He is the one who be feeling it if it isn't done well enough, after all. I am sure he will enjoy my squeals more if he is the one making them happen.

Smoothly,
BLGirl
