oh good luck on your procedure!!  i've had cysts a few times too....the last one was a week ago.  of course we're driving to stockdale to see TheEngineer's grandmother and i didnt feel well, stood up out of the car at a potty break and damn near dropped to my knees and started crying.  i KNOW that feeling all too well.  not anything could have been done other than good painkillers and we just didnt have time to go to an ER at that point.

i just forebore through it.  i'm still aching some (a week later) but the important thing to me was that we made it to see his grandmother before she passed, by 10 hours grace.  she passed at 3:30 am last sunday...at 100 years old she was ready for that rest.

kitten,

I was 23 when abnormal growth cells started showing in my paps smears so I was being scheduled for every 2 moth pelvic exams and paps , during one a large grapefruit sized cyst suddenly  appeared because it was sitting on the right side of my abdomen they thought it was on my right ovary .. a week later was in surgery ..the cyst  was attached to the left ovary not the right and it turned out to be cancerous ... so yes they can be extremely fast growing and mine  was not  painful had some mild back pain ... so it was very fortunate that I had been under every 2 month pelvic exams  at the time because if it had ruptured instead I likely would not be here  26 years later

I have had cysts on the right ovary that caused pain and discomfort.  Eventually they decreased and stopped adding to the PMS.

Please let us know how the surgery turns out and take good care of yourself.

greetings to all,

OP, I've had poly-cystic ovaries almost my entire teenage and adult life so far (I was diagnosed with them at 15, I'm 28 now).  Last year, I was diagnosed with poly-cystic ovarian syndrome, something that has been a long, hard battle to manage ever since.  There isn't a cure, so I'm stuck with it.

I wish you all the best, and I just wanted to let you know that there are others out there that have been through similar things.
If you need to chat at all, feel free to cmail me!

well wishes,

I had several of them taken care of earlier this year. Essentialy, for mine, the procedure was similiar to the vacuum suction they use for abortions to remove some of the exploded matter since I didnt know about it until they had already burst. They removed the other ones which were so close to the uterus at first palpation my GYN thought I was pregnant. I nearly DIED.
I have had PCO diagnosed since I was 12 and it got bad enough to have a version of menopause at 13 whe they had to medically restart my system with hormone treatments. Since then until recently I never had any major trouble with them aside from really uncomfy periods. However, my doctor has informed me that PCO is caused by multiple eggs being released at the same time, which means that when I do try and concieve I am prone to multiple births.

Best of luck with the surgery

One years ago that caused bleeding for six weeks straight. Finally went to the ob/gyn and got yelled at. She gave me depo-provera warning me that if it didn't work I would need surgery. I got lucky and the progesterone caused it to shrink.

However a friend has suffered her entire life with excruciating PMS, and only upon getting a new doctor a couple of years ago, did they  bother to ultrasound her. Fibroid the size of a basketball, and apparently it caused all the pain for all these years. She had a hysterectomy and has been pain free and very happy ever since.

Master has been babying me all summer due to ovarian cysts, i was rushed from fairbanks to anchroage with a watermellon sized cyst and a canteloup sized cyst(btw i cant bring myself to eat either since, lmao) the larger of the two had obstructed my bowel and they had to resect a portion. due to post surgical infection i had to have a second operation later which has kept me down far longer but the origional surgury was a blessing, i had been having problems for months where i'd have to go lay down on my side for a few hours for the pain to ease up, not to mention i hadnt realized how long it had been since i had pooped regular.
they actually removed the ovaries so it wouldnt happen again and did a hystorectomy as well, so yeay... no more messy clean up, lol

ah, so scary.  Ive also gone through this, tho not any cysts of that size.

I did some research on homeopathic remedies, and everything ve read mentions changing your diet to control the growth of such cysts.  Lke not eating chicke, or dark greens or foods with alot of estrogen.

elegantalexis -> RE: Ovarian Cysts - Anyone? (12/11/2008 8:17:16 PM)

After 3 cysts bursting on me and trips to the ER (on the 3rd one I was highly pissed at the doctors for allowing this to continue happening)  I told a GYN to take that ovary out PRONTO!

Ended up with a hysterectomy and the bad ovary taken out, as well as the cervix.  I was happy until some underlaying infection nearly killed me a few days later.  The doctor was nearly torn in half for not prescribing antibiotics until I had a seizure from vomiting so much that my lack of potassium caused the seizure to occur.

Now I just content with the left ovary...at least I am not on HRT like my mother is.
