This is Darcy A pedant writes.....the 'zombies' in 28 Days / Weeks Later aren't actually your traditional zombies at all, as they haven't died and returned to life, but are instead the 'infected'. (The same is also strictly true of the Planet Terror 'zombies'</pedantism> I grew up on the Romero brand of zombie, and will always have a soft spot for the slow, shuffling corpses of Night, Dawn, Day, Land and Diary of the Dead. However, those who claim that Romero's zombies never ran are not entirely accurate - witness the two zombie children who come tearing out of the closet when they stop to refuel the helicopter. I have to admit that despite my love of the shufflers, I did dig the faster variety in Zakk Snyder's 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake, a movie I was initially completely against as I thought they'd sully the original's reputation (which sadly has happened with the recent remakes of The Omen, The Fog, and the travesty that was Gus Van Sant's 1998 remake of Psycho) As for the Zombie Survival Guide, I found it a little bit hit and miss, but Max Brooks's follow up, World War Z, is a wet dream for zombie fans! Imagine the gravitas and depth of the writings about the most famous battles of WWII, and apply that to a fictional ten-year zombie war, and I guarantee you'll remember certain of the 'reporting' in this book for a long time after you put it down.
