Status: offline 		I've done enemas for clients who wanted to be clean, but now I have someone who wants to spend an entire day getting enema after enema.  Included will be a coffee enema which he wants to have a plug in place to hold for 30 minutes.

Aside from completely taking out all the healthy bacteria in the intestinal tract, what else does this do? 

Are there any risks from having a plug hold an enema in place? If so, for how long?

Anything else a novice should know?

Status: offline 		There would be a real danger of electrolyte imbalance.

I worked in a hospital where, as a bowel prep, we would put down a NG tube and run in fluid until (basically) it came out the other end.   I had several patients who ended up on the floor, fainted.  It had screwed up their electrolytes.

The problem is that the bowel isn't just a tube. It is permiable, and lets fluid and toxics in and out - think alcohol or coffee enemas. The reason you get drunk from an alcohol enema is because the body absorbs the alcohol. In the same way, an enema can pull out sodium by osmosis.

The whole thing is probably a bad idea, and should be relegated to fantasy.

Status: offline 		In addition to electrolyte imbalances, it can also shock and stall out the kidney and or liver. As water is absorbed, its falls upon the kidneys to filter this, and it can cause permanant renal failure. With the coffee, well, it shocks the liver, and can irritate the intestinal track if left for too long. The recomended 'safe' amount on coffee enemas is 1/4 cup normally made coffee per each liter.

It's an interesting idea but I think the sugar in Gatorade would be too much for the system that way.

Status: offline 		I'd say that the sugar in the gatorade won't absorb in the colon and is going to pull water off the circulation creting a dehydration and electrolyte imbalance

Status: offline 		I think there is a sugar free pedialyte that might work better than gatorade.   I still think that day long enemas are a bad idea.

ok, that is messed up, but in a very funny way...now they have the gatorade powder, you could mix it with the coffee...

as to the OP, what's next, blueberry pie?  the guy could end up like Violet in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...

Status: offline 		One good piece of advice I was given about enemas: Add salt to the water to stem off the dangers of osmosis. I want to say 1/2 as salty as sea salt - but what I'm saying is "research salt in enemas."

Also, stem off only means a delay of the inevitable. (at least here)
