I've read several of the replies to the OP and have simply skipped to the end to make my own. If another has already covered this I would offer an apology for the rehash but then that wouldn't be very Domly of me would it (at least in the myopic view that being Dominant also means being self-righteous and rude)?

Emotional intelligence is very important to me. Knowing yourself, your own feelings, dealing with them in ways that are healthy and productive. You can't empathize with another until you have gotten in touch with your own.

I've known a lot of very intelligent people that were absolutely emotional wrecks.

Lao Tzu had a phrase that I admire, "You measure a mans intelligence by his ability to keep himself happy." A nice way to tie those two types of intelligence together.

[why do you do this to me, I will be typoing for an hour]

To me it is when you go beyond. Everybody knows recent events and shit like that. Everybody knows what Obama or Bush or whoever else said or did. Everybody knows what is going on, and knows all about how we are getting fucked in the ass every day.

The best discussions for me are when it gets beyond the facts, which is a bit ironic actually. When people start thinking beyond the fact, as in a solution to a problem. The main goal of conversation is to expand the mind.

If you want to talk about your new shoes, I am the type who could not care less what they look like, tell me how comfortable they are. I don't care what your dog did. I don't care about the fish you caught, I don't care what's wrong with your car unless nobody else can figure it out.

Not long ago, guy stops over and I want to talk to him, I have my reasons. Another guy stops over and wants to talk about fishing. Fukit, I sent the other guy to the store for beer which I did not need, just to get rid of him for a bit. Cost me twenty five bucks but then I had like fifty beers. But what I really bought was the time.

I didn't want to front the guy off, but this fishing talk was annoying me, especially right now. I did not want to throw anyone out, it wasn't warranted. But if you want to talk about how big of a fish you catched, get the fuck out. Don't waste my time.

Most intelligent discussion starts with some fact or current event, and then some people will analyse the situation and offer up an opinion. Others will just say "That sucks".

And to whoever so eloquently pointed out that if you have to ask what intelligewnt conversation is you don't know, I offer the equally eloquent response - DUH. Why the hell do you think they asked ?

To me, an intelligent discussion include assertations and suppositions about the subject, which are then discussed or argued, depending on your point of view. But he did this but she did that, go see Jerry Springer. I have no time for such babbling.

I forgot how this goes, but I'll wing it.

Great minds discuss concepts
Lesser minds discuss events
Small minds discuss other people
