Hi Dolf.

The thread on Trinity Church's platfrom in support of black liberation theology went on for many, many pages.  All the cliches about white people being the victims of prejudice, and black people being racists for embracing it were trotted out and shot down there.
http://www.collarchat.com/m_1945750/mpage_1/tm.htm

Oh, and by the way...  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/parity     Or did you mean 'towards'?  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/towards

I do wonder about the mention above that races are 'spread out equally' in the prison population though? What jails did you visit that black men only made up 6% of the population as they do on the outside?

I meant towards. The proper/preferred term is toward, but hey you got your 1/2 point since SOME dictionaries list it. I still am not a fan of aint.

I often visited jails in Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana, Northern California and Florida. I did this in an official capacity which will not be discussed further.

I grew up where I was called a "cracker" for being white and it was not meant in a harmless manner. It was meant to insult and reflect hate.

I was turned down for a job in Oakland California with the OPD. I had the highest score on the written and verbal exam and I had the highest score on the fitness test. Why was I turned down? I was brought into an office by the Recruiting Sergeant and was told that they would love to hire me based on my scores, experience and background, but I was not a minority. He said, "If you were anything but a white man, if you were Asian, Hispanic, black or even a female, we'd hire you in a minute." This was in 1992, a time when people thought they were correcting injustice.

It's okay that you try to shoot down all the words in my post. Your mind has been made up and you have issues with my views. I already stated my thoughts on extremists on the message board. I think there are many very intelligent, non-corrupt and socially responsible people on this message board. I listen to that very small percentage.

I like your subtle style if there is any consolation in that.

By the way, I will bring up any point whether it was beat up and thrown away in another thread if it is fitting to the topic. You may ignore anything I write if you wish but further references to other posts will not sway me.

Oh, I suspect that you will be ignoring a lot of requests to back up your opinions if you keep stating them as facts.

As person of color, I don't feel the need for reparations. I'm not African American, but my ancestors were also enslaved way back when. As long as people in the present treat me well then I have no problem.

I agree with Obama in that the "reparations" should be making sure minoties are treated well and have the same opportunities as everyone else in the here and now.

I have a white friend who beats up on himself for being white because of this crap. And he's Irish/Italian! He lives with the pressure of feeling that he should apologize to everyone for being white because of people who think he's one with "The Man" and could never understand them. Hey, that's racism too! I can't stand any of it.

I agree with you on all points made/implied. People need to be treated as equal individuals regardless of age, sex, religion, race, etc. The opportunity of a person to excel in this world should be based on capabilities that have no sex, orientation or color.

Dolf,

Oh, I agree with that last 100%! Problem is, there are plenty of folk out there who don't. We're making progress, but it takes time.

Sorry to hear you feel yourself to be a victim of reverse discrimination. So, were you eventually able to find a job then? (I can only imagine how tough it would have been for the minorities who got them, instead of you, since they were locked out of the opportunities for generations on end.) But you and yours are doing okay now?

First paragraph: Eventually everything works it's way out.

Second paragraph: How coy your comment/question is. It is discrimination or it is not, there is no such thing as reverse discrimination. Legal discrimination is still discrimination.

from the original article

In a 2004 questionnaire, he told the NAACP, "I fear that reparations would be an excuse for some to say, 'We've paid our debt,' and to avoid the much harder work."

yeah he is against thembut for what reason? I have a debt to black people? not

What hard work is he talking about?

sounds like this guy wants everything both ways, just last week he thought reparations were a good idea.

does he think schools in the inner cities are bad because of slavery?lol

they get moer money thrown at them than urban areas that actually graduate kids. Does he have the nerve to fight theteacher unions? thats what is holding the schools back, that and no disipline of the kids from school and at home/

Jumped through, sorry.

The fact is that they owe us. Yes they worked, and they were sold into slavery by their own countrymen. If I were a slave trader I would have taken the sellers as well. But that's just me.

As Blacks advance into our day and age, most people do not realize something. We had thousands of years to build this society, and they were thrust into it a couple hundred years ago. But now we have Bleck doctors and lawyers and such. And White people are getting stupider. So if the trend continues, it is we White people who will be inferior. Perhaps we are already.

Give credit where credit is due, if you are against that I hope your life sucks. They could have been pulled out of the jungle while eatring tree bark and bugs, but they survived, they did not need us.

In a way it's like the tree of knowledge in the garden of Eden. But they did not choose to take a bite. They could've remained how they were. Living with nature all around them, living.

But here is what might get me kicked off here. Go up to any Black person and ask them if they would like to go to Africa, I mean move there. They might possibly get out out of their new SUV and kick you in the balls.

People have died to get here. Others spent their fortunes, sold their houses and everything and came here, learned the language as fast as they could. They got jobs, OK some people already had premade jobs for them. Slavery was wrong, but in the end they would rather be here. Ask them, I have.

Alot of people in the world would rather be here, even now with all these problems. Why the fuck else would we have illegal aliens ? Reparations is a joke because we already repaired them better than they would ever get repaired in the country from which they came.

Don't ask me about slavery, my family didn't do it. I got proof because we weren't even here when it was happening. So why should I pay ? For some cotton dress my Greatgrandmother wore ? Are you kidding me ?

slv, you like that ? I got alot more, alot more truth. Other side, there are some things I don't think I can post.

I have known and know a few Black people, and they are every bit as intereasting as the White people I hang with. We don't talk about Michael fucking Jackson, and I know things.

It may be my selectiivness in general that makes it this way, I have strict standards, but skin color is not one of them.

Term I don't care how you dress it up...finding a silver lining in slavery just won't fly...if you can wrap your mind around something like that...we could also say that the holocaust was a good thing ,otherwise Isreal would have a really serious population problem...

Fact of the matter is, with the right mind, anything can be rationalized. Anything can be made to make sense.

Frankly, I'm not ashamed of what my country did to make itself great. I'm not ashamed of slavery, of the wars, of the slaughter. Do you think it's the first time this has happened? Do you think we are somehow "different" or "worse"?

The problem I see with reparations is that it encourages people to leave their minds in the past over a materialistic cause. "Oh woe is me, my great, great, great grandfather, whom I've never met nor care a lick about was a slave. Give me money so I can drown my sorrows!"

I'd say people have life on backwards. They ought to turn it around so their past is -behind- them, and get the hell over it.

There are far bigger concerns in one's life than long-dead ancestors, and I wish people would just suck it up, accept that life is neither always pretty nor often fair, and move on.

We have government grants, social welfare programs, and temporary work agencies that are accessable to all citizens, regardless of sex, color or creed, so if people are having trouble, educationally, medically or financially, we can help fix these problems. Let's stop asking for hand-outs and learn to work for something, earn something with our own hands.

The level of invalidation and disregard in the above is rather mind boggling to me.

Just for the record, when I had the shop, a Black Man came looking for work. This was a long time ago. During the 'interview' he said "Do you have a problem hiring a Black guy ?". At that I pulled out a hundred dollar bill and smacked it with the middle finger of my other hand to make a noise and said "That is the only color that matters to me". He worked for us for about a year.

Just so you know.

They owe, but all they owe is to be productive members of society. Like I said, some people in the world would die for an opportunity like this. That may have changed in recent years, but that is how it used to be.

And reparations are wrong on face value, because all of the slaves are dead. You can't give it to the people who deserve it, so that about blows out the whole idea to any sane Man. Whether or not I am sane is in the mind of the reader.
