Holy shit! <grabs GT up and hugs her> I love your new photo!! You look fabulous. Where are you standing?

OP: You can do it! I smoked 4 packs a day for 33 years, and I just laid them down one day and said, no more. I'm done. I have not even taken a hit since then <s>

suhlut -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/21/2008 11:03:58 PM)

Thanks ladies!

as per my usual habit, i went and did some studying online for tips, and one of them was to take a straw, ( i cut mine to the aprox size of a average unlit ciggy) and use it for whenever the urge to put something between lips hits.. and simply inhale FRESH air, through the straw.

i kinda like it, and am thinking i will prob be "smoking" my straws" for a few weeks at least. lol

GreedyTop -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/21/2008 11:35:05 PM)

YOU CAN DOOOOOOOOO IT!!!

I quit cold turkey years ago. One of the best things I've ever done for myself.

pussiwhipper2 -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/22/2008 1:53:41 PM)

mrbob726 -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/22/2008 2:09:04 PM)

Congrats to all - I quit over 12 years ago, cold turkey, wasn't easy, but I never looked back - and a lot healthier for it - you can all do it, just don't give up [sm=applause.gif]

Lasciviouslady1 -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/22/2008 2:32:50 PM)

I tried to do it cold turkey a few times....after about 4 hours I wanted to start kicking anyone who talked to me[:@]...I just couldn't do it..... I've been on the patch for 2 weeks now and the only time I REALLY want one is when I'm pissed off..and I've been a good girl!!! [:D]

mrbob726 -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/22/2008 2:42:03 PM)

It doesn't matter how you do it, just that you DO it - it's worth it - (except I gained 25 pounds shortly after)

SavageFaerie -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/22/2008 6:34:01 PM)

Any one with tips for someone with severe anxiety disorder which when happens turns into a radicial need to smoke?

I can even get down to 3-4 a day, but that was with the help of 300mg wellibutrin which my dr just did a meds change and took me off. I so nervous that the need or addiction will climb. I have tried cold turkey, what a laugh didnt last a day. I have tried patches, didnt work, panic attacks overrode the niciotine I was getting through the patches, Tried the gum, I thought my stomach was going to go on strike.

As I said the wellbrutrin dosage which normally is dispensed at 150 mg ( same thing as Zyban). I was on a dose twice that and now I have been off them a few days. Im working hard to keep the urge from rising but that med isnt completly out of my system yet.

When I do smoke I never smoke a full one just enough to take that nervous edge off.

Even talked to the dr about it and he said with the severity of my condition getting off completely will be a hard faught battle.  But I just cant let go of the last of it....never made it to zero for more than one or two days. It sucks that my brain is counter productive with this. If I get down to one of two in a pack, my panic sets in over that. So its a vicious never ending cycle.

My father died 2 years ago with dozens of complications from smoking all his life and Im up to year 30 something years with the habit..

props as in hard sugar free candy, straws ect didnt help, keep my mouth busy but wouldnt get the image that its not nicotine going into my systems. I curse my 13 year old ass for ever picking one up and starting all thoses years ago.

To those who have quit....I envy the hello out of you. To those trying best of luck. I wish I could make that final step.

Ravensnake -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/23/2008 3:23:49 AM)

Good luck! I stopped 3 years ago the same way. I used to smoke strong French ciggies which I loved.....but I managed to stop. You want it badly enough you'll make it.

Quivver -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/23/2008 8:08:05 AM)

I wish you the best!
OMG .. that has to be the single most difficult thing I have ever tried to do.
A cigarette is my morning coffee's drinking buddy, they are both there every morning waiting for me.
A cigarette keeps me company, sit by quietly as I contemplate the day.
It serves as desert after a meal, and when I'm too busy to eat it is the meal.
I can abuse them as my willing slaves, using them without thought throughout the day. (something here screams who's the dom and who's the sub, but that question is an on going question here over humans anyway)
Yes I know I should quit. I have tried to quit, unsuccessfully a few times. Wellbutrin only made carrots taste bad. And Chantrix was too reminiscent of morning sickness. Cold Turkey as you've chosen seems the only way. Yet I think the will power to accomplish it has to come from a source near God like.
You all who've quit are my Hero's ...

Alumbrado -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/23/2008 9:11:46 AM)

Quitting can be done cold turkey, but it doesn't have to be done cold turkey. I did it that way, but I couldn't tell you how to do the same, I just did it and never looked back, after chain smoking for about 8 years..

Interrupting the patterns associated with a smoke is reported to help.
After dinner, practice a musical instrument instead of plopping in front of the TV. At work, set new reading up high, and stand up to study, instead of dropping into a chair... hit the shower immediately upon rising instead of having that eye-opener coffee and smoke.

Icarys -> RE: I just Smoked my last cigarette! (8/23/2008 9:23:34 AM)

Good for you.I've never smoked, so i wouldn't know what it was like to try and stop.I do wish you the best.
