I can't remember my boyfriend having ever done this. I don't think it's BDSM specific, just you're relationship specific.

As far as any speech protocols, I think my dom knows how much of a punishment that would be for me.

I'd refer to my Dom as my 'One', not myself.

I'd rather see a decent attempt at punctuation than cutesy subbie-speak any day.

Then again, lolspeak is even more annoying... http://speaklolspeak.com/?t=anon

This girl has noticed that some dominants enjoy the use of the third person speak.  As in they use it when referring to themselves.  Such as:  this domiant yadda yadda yadda

it was a few years ago when i was ordered to use this and i ended up laughing so hard i had tears running down my face...i wasn't very good at it.  i've also had doms want me to say certain things during certain situations and i just can't do it.  i have to say what i'm feeling and what is going through my mind, to put some recited saying in my mouth because he's standing in front of me with a hard on is just silly....this is just my opinion, thanks.

mostly insults, put-downs and jokes...especially in the online forum.  from time to time there are a few folks who express an affection/appreciation for it, when the topic is discussed here, but not often.

that being said, what pleases the masses, or is the "done thing" isn't this slave's concern...what pleases Master, is.

But beth, your use of third-person-speak is natural, and I'll bet some people read your post and didn't even realize you don't use the word "I."  The difference between what you do, and what 99% of third-person-speakers do, is that you don't make the fact that you're speaking in the third person a big deal.

I'm sure you know the declarations -- online and in real -- when every sentence starts emphatically with "This girl...."  It's like throwing down a gauntlet: "look how slavey I am!"  I firmly believe that's what gets the female subs so upset about this topic.  Someone who actually can have a conversation, where there are things to discuss that are more important than the amazing perfection of their submission, and says "this slave" instead of "me" -- no one's going to get bent out of shape about that.  Well, ok, grammar nazis will, but maybe someday they will decide to grow up.

I'm a fake dom too.  I'm actually toying with the idea of getting a faux leather jacket with a pin that says "Fake Leather - Fake Dom."  I think scening with that would be frikkin awesome.

Wow, I'd hate to have to start using slash-speak... I can see starting out fine and ending up writing some bastardized source code before I got to the closing...

Hi everybody,
I got a  couple of thoughts
babies
beth
and passive voice...

We talk to babies / ums with third person  "you are daddy's girl, aren't you?" "Mommy is going to the store. Be good for the sitter."
Beth - Anyone who gives you a hard time is a jerk.  You are OBVIOUSLY the real deal; you are making your fellow happy.  idiots abound everywhere.... and that'd be them, not you darling.  That goes for all the s-types that are required to do it.  Make your Dom-type happy.
The whole "this slave", "this girl", "this one" is just blatant self promotion from folks who want to look slavier than thou.  Finally, passive voice.  Yeah... it gets rid of that whole thing.  By changing to passive voice, the Dom is important. "Master's orders were carried out" lets the focus be where it belongs.

I do go to a Gorean chat room where it is required as well as a Gorean forum, so I do it, but that's just being polite in someone else's house, like removing my shoes.  Usually I'll use passive as much as possible and then third when neceessary.  It sounds more natural then.

well wishes,
sunshine

I use third person now and again, it simply slides in and out. I find it happens more often then not, when Im trying to communicate something difficult for me to say, or explaining something that has happened to me.

I guess using third person makes it easier for me to say, as if pretending it didnt happen to me.

Back in the day, I was pretty emphatic about slash speak and absurd capping conventions.  Always felt they were just silly ways to say "gee, we're so different, we even have a special language", akin to Trek levels.  (Level 2 trekkies know Klingon history. Level 1 trekkies SPEAK Klingon.)

Then I came under a Master who was perfect for me in all ways, except.. He insisted on the goofy typing protocols!   Once a year, I asked to be relieved of the rule, citing difficulty in communicating in forums.  His reasoning was always sound, nevertheless, the answer was still No.  Finally, this year, I was relieved of it..

I sometimes still use the small i because it's pretty much a habit after 4 years, and I'm a pretty lazy typist.  Yes, there were some valuable lessons learned by both of us.  Still, I'm happy to be done with it.

(dammit, where's that dancing banana smiley?)

I have had a long standing, passionate love affair with words from a very early age so I find myself cringing when they are used "improperly", whether in speech or in writing.

I have a lifelong affair going on with words... Just like dirty dancing, dirty talking is an art.  Less can be more. And more can be more or less.
Yet so as not to derail the thread by the way  i have been instructed not to use third person-speak. With regard to capitalisation and i, i am in transition and use both. If i am feeling partcularly slave like i simply defer to the programme i am writing in......which auto corrects in Works but maintains the lower case here.
nothing much changes in the World as a consequence so i am taking my time working on the deeper meanings......
Now rows of full-stops i cannot live without.

Where I see most third person talk is in Gorean play.  It's very common there and it has to do with how the Norman books were written.
