nurses can be held liable for any misinformation they may give out to anyone. yes, the good samaritan act covers us, but, even that would not save our hides, or licenses, from giving out wrong information. i read all the responses, ran through my mind what could possibly be wrong... all i can say is.. see your Dr... we dont have enough infomrtaion to make even a shakey diagnosis as to what may be wrong. my worry would be telling you to do something, then finding out later what i told you to do has caused you more harm then good. a bite, proken bone, gout, poor circulation, diabetes.... it could be a number of things ice .. a good suggestion... reduce the swelling... i have seen skin split due to an increase in fluid, though, i would worry about cooling down the area too much elevation... always good with swelling.. and about as noninvasive as you can get it could have been simply because you may have been sitting for a long time playing DnD, and your circulation wasnt able to catch up i could go into alot of possible causes... none of which would be correct if i didnt take a thorough history, did an actual exam, possibly a few tests as well i understand your concern... but.. honestly... if an area is affected that badly to the point of swelling and lose of nerve conduction... the ER is truly the best place for you
