Does eating less carbs lower weight? Yes they do but a lot of people once they get to their target weight and go back to eatign a regular amount of carbs gain the weight back. Eating less fats and going with more traditional dieting keeps weight off longer. Also most things low in carbs are high in fat which while it might make you thinner isn't doing wonders for your heart. Now having a diabetic condition I'm not saying you should eat a regular amount of carbs, and eating less will lead to some weight loss it is better to lower your caloric and food intake rather then simply carbs for general dieting.

Maybe you are talking about "substitute" foods..?? Like Eating "low carb" special cookies.. that are "low sugar" but they have a bunch of other crap in it. Or maybe you are thinking of those Atkins dieters that eat "bacon and pork chops" every meal... But "low carb" healthy food isn't high fat..??

i eat Tofu... it is low carb.. and low fat...
i eat Seitan... also very low carb... also low fat...
tempeh... low carb... low fat...
Salmon....
Skinless chicken breast...
Whole grain bread...
Yogurt with ground flaxseed...
Berries.... Cucumbers...
Air popped popcorn (with very little butter or no butter - some salt)

None of those things are "high fat" merely because they are "low carb".... ~ i'm not intending to hit a target weight and then start eating how i used to again (i used to eat bread! all the time - i'd have lunch of "just bread and olive oil" ~ waaaay too carb crazy)... i have always eaten tofu and things too (so it's not a shock to me to "drop" the white breads and other bad carbs i was eating and start nibblin' chucks of tofu)~ ...but.. i never recommend people do "temp diets"... i recommend really trying to change your regular diet towards a way of eating you can continue on for years and years... :)

Also.. i do eat less calories now.. i eat nearly the same "portion size" of food as i did before. However a cup of air popped popcorn has "less calories" (then say) a cup of fritos or crunchy cheetos. A fresh skinless breast of chicken on a bed or wild whole grain rice... has less calories than a McDonalds big Mac and fries! hehehe... Or a cup of frozen raspberries has less calories than a cup of "rocky road icecream"...

i just mentioned portion sizes being similar.. because i know that the idea of having to eat "less food" is sometimes unpleasant at first. Like.. the idea of eating only "half a sandwich" and that's all seems like "no fun".. but the idea that you can eat completely different foods and have portion sizes that take up the "same amount of room on the plae" as you're used to seeing.... is a little kinder... ~ but now i've babbled far too much.

................*lightly pinchin' Baby Neko* Sorry for ramblin' away .. completely "off" your original topic. ~eeps!! Forgive me... *stuffs a bunch of wall scrolls in your hands (as a peace offering)* ...~

Point taken. I never cared for tofu everytime I have it it for some reason brings to mind what it would feel and taste like if I were to eat a sponge lol.

As for popcorn I like popping it in a kettle with some salt and extra virgin olive oil. Extra virgin olive is relativly healthy as far as oil goes, tasty too

oOOoo.. really? i never tried olive oil on it.. though since i have an air popper maybe i can't do that.. i can't imagine drizzling extra virgin olive oil on the popcorn would work!... *heheh*

Ahhhhhhhhh! you can buy pre-cooked baked (flavoured) tofu that is easier on folks who aren't that keen on tofu. :)

I don't really drizzle it over it. Good heavy pot (preferably tall) with a good lid on medium or so heat depending on how powerful your stove is enough EVOO to to cover the bottom and come up little on the corn heat the oil slightly and them pour in the popcorn. Then jsut stir and when they just start to pop slap on the lid and shake the pot once it really gets going turn the heat down a bit and cook and shake till the popping slows then cut off the heat. Just how much heat you are going to have to exparament with since all stoves are different and as anyone who has microwaved popcorn jsut a few seconds to long popcon is tempermental stuff.

Will also give a little drizzle of evoo with the heat off just after the popping stops and sprinkle a little mroe salt. Just enough to barly coat not real heavy like extra butter at the movies. Great stuff the EVOO adds a light flavor, a little fruitness, and wont burn like butter. Plus it's much lighter then butter and EVOO is rather good for you.

But then agian I'm Italian and love EVOO and jsut about anything....except maybe ice cream.

PS- As to the air popper you'd have to weight till after it pops and is in a bowl to drizzle a little evoo on it. Tried putting oil in an air popper once when I was younger. Bad juju and doesn't work well.

Purring at ragdoll.

I just find it easier not to bother with popcorn air or otherwise. the skins of the kernal get in my throat an choke me.

someone sugested trying to have all 4 food groups in your meal through out the day, how would you do that, and what are the four groups lol been so long me has forgotten.

Ragdoll, I like water ok but It depends, Am I thirtsty or do I want flavor. I can't drink like say 8 ounces of it at once but I can drink one of those lil smaller glasses of it at once.

Haven't read this thread...just the last few posts. However, whoever mentioned having the 4 food groups in your diet daily hasn't been to school in a while. Neither have I but I do know the 4 food groups are long gone. It is the food pyramid now.

Inside the pyramid.

Anyway if ytou look up foodgroups instead of food pyramid it will still give you information you need. I think it's just silly symantics differentiating between food group and food pyramid lol

FP, try putting a little fruit into the water. A little slice of lime or lemon is great in water to add a zing. Club Soda is good too.

I'm not much for water myself, but enjoy ice tea, made with Green and Black Tea. Green Tea is suppose to be really good for you too, and the bonus is...it tastes good too!

I never cared for green tea, I prefer a nice black tea if it is jsut strait tea. Though a nice earl grey is always welcome too. Just be careful if yo uhave conditions that make cafine a bad idea. Even if you don't to much can be a bad thing.

Actually it is quite different. It changed....I think about 15 or so year's ago. The government just got a bit smarter...and created a better pyramid than the one we had.

Anyway it is composed of.

Grains.
Vegetables
Fruits...and the pyramid even says go easy on fruit juices.
Oils
Milk
Meat and Beans

What is great about this site is it calculates what you need to do in order to stay healthy and lose weight.

so very true. i used to drink a lot of earl grey, and i had a tea party and we ate and talked and drank tea...etc. for hours. after all left, i couldn't sit still, my heart was racing, and it got so bad i called the local ER. i had overdosed on the tea (theopthalline, which is like caffeine), and the nurse said it would take an hour for each cup consumed. it was a very long night. so even when healthy, too much can be too much.

I am no doctor and claim not to be one!

Are you still only eatting maybe 1 meal daily?
when you eat that one meal your body thinks you are just adding carbs and store it as fat cells,
a good diet to look into is the diabetic diet as it will help you get back into the healthy way to eat.
also with that diet you will start to eat smaller meals and more meals.

I myself have done this and cut all the sugar/fats from my eatting and i dropped over 50 pounds in 4 months. the hard thing to do is maintaine the diet when it is the holidays but i try daily to keep my head high and my goal in mind too!

set a small goal...... 1 size smaller pair of pants then you wear now, when you reach that goal buy those pants and say ok i did that i can try again and keep rewarding yourself.

as for a liquid diet............ ask your doctor and im sure they will find something better!

Nope, just proteins. The thing about a diabetic diet is you consume much smaller quantities of food.
It indeed is an actual diet.
So, like one piece of toast instead of two. One cup of soup instead of a bowl..so on and so forth.
Most people who follow the diet lose weight and keep it off. You are merely eating smaller quantities.

Thanks for this suggestion, Wolf. I tried it this weekend, with white popcorn, and it was absolutely delicious. A little more work than just popping a bag in the microwave, but a heck of a lot healthier.

Awww....common now, give Tofu a chance! I've been a vegetarian for 36 years now and eat a ton of Tofu. Tofu meatless balls, tofu stroganoff, tofu chili, barbequed tofu, tofu milkshakes and on and on and on. You don't need to eat it in its natural, uncooked form. It picks up the flavor of anything that is cooked with it.

I agree that, in its raw form, it is rather unpleasant and sponglike.

The same is true for tempeh and seitan too. Wouldn't touch either of them uncooked and plain. But in receipes??? That is some delicious stuff. Try on seitan fajitas for size. Super spicy and super nutritious!
