Don't worry.  Later in that chapter of Corinthians, in verse 15, it says a women's hair is given to her for her covering.  If that is true, all of us  women with hair are covered.

Of course, without a husband, I am not sure whether it matters.

How would anything to do with her personal views on TG people be "sauce for the goose". That would merely be a policy disagreement, having nothing to do with the discussion at hand...

It seems that you're stretching things just a bit.

Everyone knows Grape Nuts are a thing of the past! The last instance was in the 19th century in the Crimean War when several British Guardsmen succumbed to the accuracy of Russian Grape Shot.

phil, since you constantly feel in need of resorting to such mudslinging as this in order to defend yourself in these forums, and you cannot debate in an honest and civil manner, I would thank you to quit responding to my posts.

So then, (cutting to the chase before it bogs down in diverions; KS, I'm looking at you and SH) what does it mean to stand for election on the basis of "Christian values" if in fact there is any such thing?

Standing where I am, it appears to me that "Christian values", whilst a convenient shorthand that is widely accepted, doesnt actually mean anything at all, because it can mean a whole lot of different things to everyone - even and especially in the camps that celebrate it. Yes, there is some sharing of ideas but there is no coherent set of "Christian values" which all those who look to it and for it agree on.

In such case then its at best questionable and at worst totally fraudulent to stand for election on the basis of "Christian values".

This isnt about bashing Christianity or the Bible (or even Sarah Palin, who just happens to have prompted this), still less Christians themselves. Its about questioning what is meant by "Christian values" as it might be applied to firstly a marketing campaign such as an election campaign is, whether it has any merit as a selling point in that marketing process and whether it should have any role in government - if, as seems to be the case it is actually anything you want to make it.

Here is an article on Christian values...not sure if it's what your looking for though.

Talking the talk and walking the walk are two totally different things. Those bible teachings only apply to "some" women, not ones like Palin who are out to save all our souls whether we want them to or not. Anne Coulter is the same way, they like to "stir up the pot" and rarely live by the teachings/beliefs that they claim to embrace.

There is a huge difference and divide between 'christian values' and the 'values of christ'.

So very true.  I love this quote from Mohandas Gandhi:  "I like your Christ.  I do not like your Christians.  They are so unlike your Christ."  I am a Christian, meaning that I believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and consider the Scriptures divinely inspired.  You could find the most loudly espousing Christians in the public view and compare my "Christian values" with theirs and I'm sure you'd find huge differences.  I don't agree with the "values" most right-wing conservatives espouse.  To climb on some bandwagon labeled "Christian values" is nonsense because there is no one concensus.  I've found that, sadly, to many, Christianity is often just a shield to hide behind while throwing rocks and damning judgments toward all those whom one doesn't approve of.  So unlike Christ indeed................luci

Hello Lady Ellen,

Try a reading of the Book of Proverbs.  Many ideals of how women should behave are stated quite clearly.

It's simple, a wife is supposed to obey her husband. Todd Palin, knew he couldn't get elected, so he made his wife do it(how she dresses, acting flirty). Everything she does is her husbands will, therefore she is not in conflict with the bible, because not to obey her husband would be an even worse sin.

So, once she gets elected and God takes McCain to wherever he wants him at forever, Todd Palin, will directly control the country via his wife, who is merely following her christian values.

Possible scenario, though highly unlikely.

But not as far from the realm of possibility as you, and most other rational people, might imagine. Here in Minnesota we have a congresswoman (Michelle Bachman) who told a church group that the reason she bran for public office was because her husband told her to. She didn't want to run for office, but he told her to run, and wives are supposed to obey their husbands, so that was that. This was in the same speech in which she excoriated the women in the audience with the admonishment, "Wives - obey your husbands." I don't know where we find all these wackoes in a state that's known for first-class mental health care.

it's a damned good thing I'm not Christian, and therefore don't have to abide by that book.

Question - from a confirmed British heathen, who simply doesnt get it

If Palin believes the Bible to be true and holds herself to be a Christian, then why on Earth is she not following the guidance of the Bible on how women should conduct themselves and their proper place in the world?

I would say "stone her" if not for the fact that that would be an unconscionable thing to do to a perfectly innocent rock.
