ORIGINAL: windchymes Oh, MizSuz, I loved your last post! It reminds me of the Christmas we had when I was 15....Dad wasn't working and we were broke. So we all agreed that we had to make presents for each other, and also, the tree ornaments had to be handmade. Even though they were tin foil stars and paper chains, it was beautiful! I have always called it our best Christmas, even though the other years were much more prosperous. I'm 47 now, and Dad is gone, but I still have the set of bookshelves he made me. It's one of my prize possessions. chymes What a FABULOUS story! Thank you so much for sharing. I think abandoning the commercial and societal expectations we've allowed to be foisted upon us and reconnecting with what the holiday really means to us in personal ways is the only way to enjoy a holiday. That's why I like easter the most. Whether you are a christian or not, the notion of resurrection - of the continuation of life and of transcending 'ends' - is very affirming for me. It's no surprise that it happens in spring, the season of rebirth. But I don't go to church or decorate or do eggs or do anything other than share a meal with folks I care for (if that). It's all an internal thing for me and is by far my favorite holiday time. Then I take my revitalized energy and positive outlook and try to share that with the world. Besides, I hate to shop (she said as she logged out and went shopping for a snow blower).
