in my experience, i do believe in what i cannot see. i thank him every single day for being able to witness not one but two instances of his miraculous power. first time happened 8yrs ago when my oldest was hit by a train. she was suppose to die that sunny day in July. the second time happened a month ago when a bullet missed her head by 5 inches. i may not understand why he saw fit to let her live after cheating death twice however i'm eternally grateful she's still here.

How miraculous!

Might of been even more so if he hadn't let her get hit by the train in the first place.

Wait, don't tell me, let me guess.  It's because he works in mysterious ways.

Cheap humor about a mother who nearly lost her child. Nice, rule.

Indeed. Just wow. Pretty much the ugliest thing I've seen on these boards ever.

i couldn't think of anything (holding back the tears right now)  ...it hurts to remember and too painful to ever forget how close i came to losing her within her lifetime.

Hey, but I'm not very religious...just another sinner.

I don't believe in sin.

Is Killing a Sin?

Always, knees

If one believed in sin, I suppose that would depend on who was making the rules.

Because I live by an ethical framework I've created for myself, for me killing is killing. It is ethically neutral in and of itself, neither good nor bad until everything is weighed. The ethical framework of the actual event is determined by the circumstances. In some cases, it might be a completely unethical act -- under different circumstances, it might be completely acceptable.

It wasn't meant to be humor.  It was meant to make a point.

If it is fair for her to use her near-tragedy to make the case for her beliefs then it is fair for me to respond in disagreement.

I'm more worried about people who don't believe in what they can see.

And why is that?

Because we can't attack religion among the "true believers"?

Maybe I'm just an insensitive prick, but if someone wants to throw out their personal tragedies, as painful as they may be, to show me God exists, then I don't feel the need to apologize for pointing out the obvious contradictions.

Like the family you see on the news that thanks God for surviving the lightning strike that set their house on fire.  Kind of makes you wonder why God didn't save everyone a lot of trouble by stopping the lightning strike in the first place.

Sometimes adults learn when to speak, and when to nod and move on.

Sometimes they don't.

Maybe.

Then again, maybe if adults would grow up and learn to talk about sensitive topics we wouldn't have had to put up up with what has amounted to a theocracy in our government.

I'm sorry if offense was taken.  I'm sorry if it brought up painful memories for her.  I wasn't the one who brought it up, however.  She did.  I'll be damned if I'm going to sit here, nod my head and say yes God is truly great.

Agree....if some one gives such personal example....it is easy to hurt on accident. But ..that is kinda a risk when you have pro and contra opinions in a thread.
Still...it is a tragedy...still...his remark..I see something in that too.

ps. Personal examples are propably hard to prevent when the subject of God is so personal to many people. But because it is personal (and emotional for one) doesn't mean it is true for an other.

I know. So does everyone else.

Here's a clue on a related issue.

Time for issues, time for respect

Debate, sure.

Maybe not at the funeral.

mmm don't think he deserves that. It is a discussion. Peopel should think about both the issues to write..and people should think about how they respond.
Guess both are to blame..if we want to blame

Yes, I see what you are trying to say now but I don't see it as applicable.

I've been part of those groups that rode as shields to the Westboro nutcases.  We had a funeral this summer when they showed up.

I'm not attacking her.  I feel for her.  But if she is emotionally strong enough to proclaim publicly that surviving a tragedy is proof of God then she needs to be strong enough to hear the flip-side.  Especially on a forum board debating that very point.

Was just sitting here wondering why
people believe in what they can't see?

What does this being do for them, what kind of purpose does it serve?

How has it changed your lives?

Always, knees

I believe in what I can't see because I stub my toe on it when walking through the house at night.

it's my belief that everything has a time, place and reason - yes, using my oldest's accident as example - i do believe it was meant to be. why did it have to happen to her when it did? i can't really answer that but i have accepted for whatever reason, it happened to her at the moment when it did. i'm not going to spend the rest of my life questioning the whys of her accident - i'm going to relish the fact she survived something horrific that i've seen others died from.

yes - God does work in mysterious ways

oh another thing - i really didn't appreciate the cheap shot but i'm emotionally strong enough to not let it effect/affect me

I believe that the people on this board are real, have a coporal existance  - and i can't see them.!

I believe that when i can't see my family, they still exist.

I believe that something greater than me organised this world   -  and it had a sense of humour.  There can be no other explaination for the way humans reproduce..   Can i prove any of this?    No.

At this very moment i can't prove that my kids , siblings and parents exist. I can't prove that there is a more powerful being than my Sir,  but i believe there is.

Of course - no-one else can prove that there isn't.  It all comes down to a matter of opinion - and everyone has one.

Atheism is such an easy pose.
Safe bet too, you can always repent when things look scary.
God loves atheists.
Atheists must love God, they spend half their time talking about him.

One out of ten Prophecies that comes true would not make someone a Believer from the person who Prophesied it.

Only when it is four to five,
that people start to take notice.

I know that Jesus said that their is one who
comes before me.

We know alot of Bad people on this Earth have
already came.

Adulph Hitler. Saddam Hussane, etc.

I believe that nothing will compare to who is truly coming in the near future!

I don't want to be here when that person comes.

Always, knees
