Is the US such a backwards country that in the 2008 we aren't ready for a person of color to be in the white house? I'm frightened that this is the perception some people have. I have to tell you, I have personally never been more ready for a shake up of the system. And, for the record, Obama is the right person at the right time. It is time for us all the get a grip... 2008 already!

g, It's a country where desperation leads people to throw ridiculous smokescreens to support positions for which they have no logical basis. And then call it argument. As long as Americans accept it, yup, that's where it lies. Personally, I will be delighted to cast my vote on Nov. 4 for Obama. Not because he's black. Not because this could be historic. But because I'm convinced his ideas and policies and judgment and leadership are what America needs. Yeah, others disagree---but I have to right to vote as I please, and I shall do so proudly.

When I hear people talk about how he's not the right person, I think of how I felt when I heard him speak about the economy, about race issues, etc. How he gave us more than a sound bite. He gave us paragraph length answers. As Jon Stewart said - he spoke to us like we're adults. I've never been more proud to vote in an election; never more proud to be a part of this eperiment we call America; never more proud to use semi-colons. HA!

According to Merriam-Webster, replete means "fully or abundantly provided or filled." I really don't see much of a distinction between "full" and "abundantly filled." I'm afraid I agree. I'm positive there would be an assassination ATTEMPT on Obama; there's no way to know, of course, whether it would be successful. In any case, I can't imagine why this would be a reason not to vote for him. That's like saying don't run because you might trip. And I'd still rather have Biden than either McCain or Palin. I never said not to vote for him, I think Obama is an extremely smart person. You can't not vote for someone based on what the indirect and unforeseen consequences may be. If so you may as well have lived in Iraq under Saddam Hussein voting for him in order to stop him taking out his rejection on communities. Presidents have been killed before, could be again, could lead to civil unrest, maybe, perhaps. Really though you could just as easily argue there could be consequences if McCain were assassinated especially if the assassin was black or suspected to be black. So the point you make is mute and people have to be brave enough to stand up and seek approval without fear of the small minded opinions of some at some point. If people are not ready to see an ethnic minority lead, when exactly will they be and what will it take this enlightened society to accept such a man who already has all the qualities for amazing future potential? It takes a brave man to sign up to be president even braver if they are aware certain communities hate them to the point of wanting to kill them; shows conviction in my opinion. Never be in the position asking yourself what could have been if only this that or the other.
