feline -> No Christams spirit (12/10/2005 10:16:03 AM)

Do to several reasons, which I don't care to get into here, I do not have the "Christmas spirit". [:(] I am in a brand new place, where I know no one. And I don't know my way around. I have not decorated,or baked, nor have I shopped. All gifts of importance were already purchased. I am desperately trying to get myself into the "Christmas spirit". Since it seems my Master will be here for Christmas afterall. My questions are;

Anyone have any suggestions?

What gets you into the spirit of the holidays?

Thank you for your time.

Meditating on the reason for the holiday and what it means to me, rather than concerning myself with the trappings.

I am in answer to you; feline, but borrowing this bit of insightful wisdom from this Lady.

I will modify it thus:

Meditating on the good luck to have this holiday, and what it means to you to have this much in your life, rather than some other possible outcome at this time.......

You have been given somewhat, give to others somewhat.

I am one that never really has much of that "Christmas Spirit"...and so i rely on outside stimulation to put me in the mood. For starters, I suggest doing exactly the things you haven't done...decorating and baking. Although you are new to the area, you can bake for neighbors or coworkers...a perfect way to introduce yourself and an opportunity to meet people.

Shopping can be more frustration than anything, but I find just being in a mall this time of the year allows me to feed off the energy of those around me. Perhaps you could take some time to find a special something to wear on Christmas since your Master will be there.

Volunteering may sound lame, but it really does boost your spirits and gives you a feeling of self worth.

Keep in mind too that Christmas has become commercialized....guilting us into thinking we should feel happy and joyous. There is nothing wrong with us if we chose not to buy into all the hype.

Here's some ideas...

LaMalinche -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/10/2005 7:56:01 PM)

I always find trimming my goldfish up with wuzzle-wuz brings out my christmas spirit. As well as trimming my uncle and aunt up with wiggle winks and wonks.

Of course if you really want the christmas spirit in you, you might try spiced rum in your eggnog.

Good luck, and Happy Festivus.

LaMalinche -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/10/2005 8:07:32 PM)

Sorry about the double post. Now how do I remove it?

justheather -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/11/2005 8:25:21 AM)

Oh no, dont remove it. I rather enjoyed the repetition, much like the stanza of the songs we like to sing while holding up large pewter steins filled with the rummed up nog.
When will we be proceeding with the Feats of Great Strength? I tend to fall asleep during the Airing of Grievances so would someone please nudge me before the Feats begin?

LaMalinche -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/11/2005 11:28:13 AM)

Feats of Strength? Is that before or after the part where we have the big fight about what our Beth said about our Eric at the last family meal, and everyone ends up glaring at the people at the other end of the room and not talking because of who got the silver tea set when grandma passed away because it was supposed to go to our Melissa? (yes, I am using the Discworld series for that description).

Personally, I prefer the Feasts of Strength - I have trained up, and can now lift a 20lb turkey on the end of a fork with one hand.

Ahhh, holidays and family. . .

Jose, Jose Cuervo, you are a friend of mine. . . Fa la la la la la la la la

mnottertail -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/11/2005 11:53:28 AM)

I was gonna............but nah--tis the holdiays, happy holidays you!

Ron

I am a horrid smartass both boarding and encompassing asshole, to satisfy your interest..........

Thought I would let 'er alone this holiday season.
But great fodder. Will you be my straight man? LOL.

LaMalinche -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/11/2005 3:53:30 PM)

Ahhh come on mnottertail, I just have to know!!!!!! I am even giving you my best pleading look.

"But great fodder. Will you be my straight man? LOL. "

LaMalinche -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/11/2005 3:59:01 PM)

I officially hate this computer. I will finish that previous thought. . .

But in reply to mnottertail:

sure, ask the bisexual female to be the straight man. There is irony for you.

But seriously Ron, I'll be anything for you. Name the time and place. *sigh* Unrequited love. [sm=kiss.gif]

And please share your comment.

I am sure in context now you will realize that the straight man sets up the jokes in a comedy duo Bud Abbott being a classy one.

anyway you have a lot of great lead-ins. therefore fodder.

Ron............
off to see what a Malinche is!
I have been seeing it as a very new yorkie spoken "Mal a Niche'

LOL

Ummm. . .

I knew what you meant by "straight man" in your other post. Just thought a different take on it would be more amusing. We are trying to lift holiday spirits and all. Laughter is the best medicene and all of that.

My thoughts with the straight man reply went something along the lines of. . .

"Well, I can be your straight woman (gotta get that feminist edge / gender correctness in there)"
"No, wait, I can't do anything straight."
"Well, [profanity]."
"Hmmm, I can be your bisexual woman? No, just sounds stupid. Besides, we are 3000 miles apart, I can't be his woman. Sheesh"
"Hmmm, now I am getting upsurd."
Now I am just laughing too hard
THen it is, "I know, . . ."
And the post occured.

Anywho - Feline, are you feeling the christmas spirit yet? Must I cover you in Whofoofluff? Do you need Eggnog and Khulua? A truely wonderful new drink the boys introduced me to last night. And remember trim up your nose with muzzle-muz. Yes, I think I have watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" too many times.

Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome Christmas,
Come this way!

Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome Christmas,
Christmas Day.

Welcome, Welcome
Fah who rah-moose
Welcome, Welcome
Dah who dah-moose
Christmas day is in our grasp
So long as we have hands to clasp

Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome, welcome Christmas
Welcome, welcome Christmas
Day

Feline - Happy Festivus. And don't let your kitty eat the tinsel on your christmas tree.

MHOO314 -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/12/2005 7:47:36 AM)

I guess ours is a tad easier, our holiday season runs through Jan end--starts with My Moms birthday on the 5th (thats tree buying day)--, brunch on Eve of Yule, Yule--My birthday 2 days after, New Years, Twelfth Night on the 6th--then unmentionables birthday on the 23rd of January--we kind of dont have a choice, it sweeps us along---and happily so---and of course being from New Orleans, that sweeps right into Mardi Gras, etc etc---I think we have on day a year thats downtime---smiles

feline -> RE: No Christams spirit (12/12/2005 9:44:48 AM)

Thanks to everyone for all your wonderful advice. LOL It seems to be working.
